Salsa, Bachata Dancing at the Library

Salsa, bachata lessons offered Monday night for teens

The West Orange Public Library began its "One World, Many Stories" summer programming on Monday, with a lesson in salsa and bachata.

Roughly a dozen students filled one of the library rooms to learn from Montclair dance instructor, Gregory Malek-Jones, 21.

"It's important to expose kids, because it shows diversity of the culture of where different people come from and also how people express themselves through dance and through music," said Malek-Jones, who teaches at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio.

The one-hour event was part of a series of programs available free to kids and adults that have a library pass.

"We are encouraging children to read over the summer and we focus on all age groups, from babies to teens," said Faith Boyle, department head of youth services at the library. "What we do here at the library is come up with different programs that will interest the youth in the community."
