Sosummit, I think you are missing Lori's real point in her post. Sounds to me like the Letter written by the Hotel's GM is as self serving as his 3 night minimum.. (which was actually true).

The 3 night minimum is just a different version of price gouging. How about opening up the Hat Tavern as a warming station? Serve hot coffee to those in need, not just those in power?

Perhaps its you and and the Grand Summit's policies that are "what's wrong with Summit."

How is it that Mayor Dickson still doesn't understand what was wrong with her communication? It wasn't a lack of communication, it was the lack of content!

Secondly, in one of the patch articles during the week, Mayor Dickson herself considers ousting JCPL, so how is it that she walks into tonight's meeting without even finding out if its feasible, if its legal? She should have come into the meeting knowing if its possible, rather than saying I don't even know if its legal. She walks into the meeting without that basic information?!

How about a timeline for those streets not on "the list?" We understand things take time, we are just asking for accurate information so we can make appropriate plans for our families. Will it be two days, one week, by Thanksgiving? I'd even take an "I don't know but it won't be by Sunday."

Please Mayor Dickson, the backlash from these false hopes, inaccuracies, lies will do you more political damage than an honest "I just don't know."

  • On the article Power Fully Restored to NJ by Sunday, Christie Says

I too would like to know what happens when power is not restored on Sunday.

Likewise, when he talks about the number of schools up and running, is he talking about full days and all schools in a district up and running or is he including in those numbers the babysitting going on because kids are doubled up in elementary schools. It's an insult to our teachers to call that up and running! Do those numbers go on his permanent record... So he looks good.. he can say he's the gov who had 75% of schools up and running within two weeks. I have respect for gov christie because you know where he stands, but please governor... you're not fooling anyone with that stat.

You are right to put things in perspective...on the whole, the majority of us are very lucky and my sympathy goes out to your son.

This storm does, however, raise a bigger issue about our mayor and her ability to lead and advocate for her town. It would appear that mayors in neighboring towns with similar issues have done a better job communicating and advocating for their town with their respective utility companies.

Diane- your expectations about power restoration seem so reasonable. I'm curious, how you can defend our mayor who is clearly as in the dark (figuratively) as I am (literally). Does she really believe what jcpl is telling her, or did she make it up? Either way makes me nervous about this woman running our town. Why should she be defended? She's either misleading us or naive.

I too have reasonable expectations about power restoration.. But the communication is poor. She can send hourly updates and fb posts, but if they don't say anything, then they don't count!

How is it that our mayor says everyone will have power by Saturday, but when you call jcpl, they are still saying the majority will be back by Sunday midnight? Does she actually believe she was able to "pressure" jcpl? Please!!

I'd be happy with the timeline!! At least that might be somewhat realistic. Where's the accountability?
