On the article Power Fully Restored to NJ by Sunday, Christie Says

It is not about getting the power restored as it is about the information on how long it would take. In Hopatcong we have been fed grossly inaccurate restoration numbers and timelines. We are trying to take the best actions for our families. After assessments, worst case scenarios could have communicated and decisions could have been made from there. I am thanking the linemen everyday. They are even baffled at the lack of communication with so many people still out. The power will come back when they fix it, I get that but you could have told me it's gonna be awhile. I could have made much better decisions for my family.

Bronson - I'll ask the guys when I see them tonight. They did mention they are very limited in the functions they are allowed to perform due to liability issues. They mentioned there can be some union barriers at times but these guys said they are always able to work around those. They are not being turned away, they are just not being assigned work.

ReplyMaybe the mayor should verify the numbers by getting in Mini-Van 1 and driving through the town around 7 pm. No lights, no service.

Hopatcong Borough
EMERGENCY UPDATE 11/8/12MAYOR’S STATEMENT
Hurricane Sandy has brought historical damage and unprecedented emergencies to Hopatcong. Our residents continue to suffer and face the despair of uncertainty of the restoration of power. We are in frequent contact with our JCP&L representatives, the Governor’s Office, Federal, State and County officials. As we receive updates, we will get them to the public on a daily basis. We are working continuously to help our residents thru this time of crisis.
NOTICES TO THE PUBLIC
Power restoration by JCP&L has been very slow and we believe to be overestimated. Some areas have been restored. Today JCP&L has 23 trucks and crews throughout the Borough. Verizon and Cablevision are also in the Borough. No specific locations identified. Updates will be posted as received by JCP&L.
There was a water break in the Civic Center, Garden’s section. DPW repaired the break and water service has been restored.
Water from the Borough water tanks does not have to be boiled for use. There is misinformation out on this. Again, Borough tank water does not have to be boiled.
Payment deadline for November 1st Taxes has been extended to November 30th.
Shelter remains open at Hopatcong High School

So happy this is open again and with great service. The previous owner from Parkside was helping out opening weekend which was great to see. Best of luck as finding a reasonably priced place to take the family for breakfast is rare.
