@Paul P: The Freedom of Information Act is the federal version of the state's Open Public Records Act. OPRA is all that's needed for New Jersey state and local records. The West Orange School District is a separate entity with its own OPRA custodian.

At a council meeting earlier this year, the town's public information officer indicated that MyTown Marketing had ended its social media marketing services for performance-related issues. The previous vendor should not be confused with the current vendor, which has had no performance-related issues that I know of (and whose executive provided an extensive update on its activities for the town at a recent council meeting).

The township does not pay for cell phones for any council member. I raised the issue of the town's payment of employee cell phones at the April 23 council meeting, during the discussion of the 2013 municipal budget. I gave a rough estimate of about $35K to $40K based on my review of bi-weekly bills and asked the town CFO to provide the actual numbers and rationale. You can review the budget hearing from the indexed video of the council meeting at http://bit.ly/17wAvci at a website I maintain, www.WestOrangeGrassroots.org.

I spoke with a Patch editor about my concerns for a poster using someone's name in relation to the rumor/issue. The editor decided to delete the post, so you may notice a lack of continuity in the flow of the posts. The poster whose post was deleted is certainly welcome to repost or post further here, just without using the name. The deleted post had a reply that was also deleted, even though the reply didn't use a name associated with the rumor/issue. I'm not sure why his post was deleted, but that poster is also welcome to repost/post further, under the same conditions.

I appreciate the various posters' concern about this rumor/issue, which I share. But I insist that names and identifying information not be used in commenting on this rumor/issue in this blog (or any other public platform for that matter) absent some type of legal proceeding or first-hand knowledge. Legal ramifications aside, we all deserve respect for our reputations, fairness and civility in our public discourse -- where we do well to focus on facts and issues, not personalities, please.

Unfortunately, neither Prism nor the township’s redevelopment professionals will be at the March 19 council meeting. The township’s deputy attorney sent a March 17 e-mail to the council, with a copy to the mayor, saying that I was the only one on the council to submit questions on redevelopment and that no one from the public had submitted questions. (For some reason, your e-mails to the mayor on March 8, copy to the council, don’t appear to qualify as questions from the public -- although it certainly looks to me that you ask the mayor six rather detailed questions about the project.)

Therefore, the deputy attorney wrote, the mayor is not “inclined” to invite the redevelopment professionals to the council meeting to answer questions or make a presentation.

If that’s not acceptable to you, then I’d recommend you come and express your views in person at the council meeting.
