  My favorite book right now (it changes often!) is The Wind-up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. It's a surreal blend of fantasy, mystery, pop culture and Japanese history and although it pays homage to authors like Philip K. Dick and Raymond Chandler, I've never read anything quite like it.

  But as a librarian, I can't just name one, so here's a list of some past favorites: Slaughterhouse Five, anything by John Steinbeck, the House of Mirth, the Golden Bowl, the Once and Future King, the Cairo Trilogy, Infinite Jest, and Persuasion.
