McKeon Answers Questions About Anti-Bullying Law (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

Audience members at a symposium talked about both the financial burden of the law as well as issues around enforcement.

The "Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights" created a financial burden on school districts as well as an implementation and enforcement burden that was often poorly executed by school staff — according to attendees at a symposium in Newark today. Assemblyman John F. McKeon fielded those comments and other questions and said he was open to criticisms and feedback regarding the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights after he gave the keynote speech at the day-long anti-bullying symposium at Seton Hall University School of Law this morning. The symposium came just a week after little-known Council of Local Mandates struck down four provisions of the anti-bullying law as an unfunded mandate. Let's remember that the $59 million figure is ONLY for hiring the coordinators for each district. What does a coordinator coordinate? Spending, of course. The $59 million is just to hire the people who will decide how to spend anti-bullying money. The total cost statewide is likely to be triple that amount. Madness.   more ›
