A display at the West Orange Public library explains the mysteries of the ancient culture.
An official of the West Orange Energy Commission recently set up an exhibit at the West Orange Public Library detailing the mysteries of the Mayan calendar. The reality of the calendar, explains the exhibit materials, is more complicated and interesting. Mike Brick, the chair of the commission, said in an email to Patch, “Being conscious of energy is our life,” Brick’s email said. “So there is lots to know and use from this amazing calendar.” The exhibit is on display at the entrance and near the circulation desk of the West Orange Public Library.

Re: The Library During a recent visit to the West Orange Public Library I was saddened to see a police officer stationed in the main reading room. Instead of investing in much needed infrastructure and capital improvements, including a resolution of the historic Edison site, it would appear that we need to deploy public safety officers in the reading room. I am not aware of the history or the safety needs for the deployment. What concerns and disappoints me is the obvious decline in the values and respect for each other which has apparently resulted in this utilization of our scarce human resources. In light of the holiday season, I would suggest that we rethink how to respond to these issues considering even the use of auxiliary …

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society's MuckRuckus MS obstacle course is this weekend at the South Mountain Reservation.
One national charity has found a way to combine fundraising and fun, drawing hundreds of people to South Mountain Reservation this weekend to raise awareness for multiple sclerosis by bringing them to an obstacle course and mud pits. For the past week, crews have been building the MuckRuckus MS obstacle course in the open space across from McLoone’s Boathouse located in the county’s recreation complex. This enormous playground for adults is all part of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s aim to raise money and awareness for the disease. “They are a lot of fun,” said Bonnie Bardinas, communication’s manager of the New Jersey Metro Chapter of the NMSS. “This is a fun-filled kind of event, and it is just another opportunity to raise MS…

About 300 people turned out to the library's summer kickoff yesterday.
Kids and families packed onto the West Orange Public Library's front lawn yesterday, June 28, for a rock concert just for them. More than 300 people came out to listen to local children's musician Ray Andersen, also know as Mr. Ray, and his vocalist Mackenzie Shay Brown as they launched the township into its week of 150th anniversary events. Check out the photo gallery to see some of the West Orange families who enjoyed the event that evening! And a full listing of the township's events this week can be found here.
