Police: Three Cars Burglarized Overnight

In the string of burglaries, two of the cars were unlocked while one had its driver's side window broken, police say.

Police are investigating a string of car break-ins overnight Tuesday throughout town, West Orange police said. In the first incident on May 7, an unlocked 2007 Volkswagen Jetta was broken in to with $23 in loose change reported stolen, police said.  Addtionally, police reported, an unlocked 2013 Lexus GS3 was ransacked on Brookside Road, although nothing was reported stolen. A 2006 Honda Pilot was broken into overnight on Mount Pleasant Avenue, police said, and a Coach wallet containing $128 in cash, as well as credit cards, was stolen. According to the report, the SUV's driver's side window was smashed and the passenger window was reportedly moved off its tracks.  The West Orange resident told police the car alarm woke them up late …

Local Police Release Photos of Alleged Wells Fargo Bank Robber

Caldwell Police reveal surveillance video of suspect who attempted to rob West Orange bank before robbing Caldwell bank on Thursday.

Caldwell police Monday released surveillance images of a man who allegedly robbed a bank in Caldwell just one hour after he attempted to rob a West Orange bank late Thursday afternoon, officials said. According to officials in the Newark FBI office, the man entered the Wells Fargo Bank at 412 Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange at about 5 p.m. on April 18 and demanded money before fleeing without any cash.  About an hour later, police believe the same man robbed a PNC Bank at 423 Bloomfield Ave. in Caldwell. Police have not released the amount of money taken. Officials said, the man was wearing the same shoes and hat for both robberies. The man is described as a clean-shaven black man, in his late 20s, about 5-foot-6 inches to 5-foot-8 …

Firefighters Quickly Contain House Fire Sunday

No one hurt in Wellington Avenue blaze.

No injuries were reported in an early morning West Orange kitchen fire Sunday, township police said. Firefighters from West Orange and Orange responded to 57 Wellington Ave. around 9:26 a.m. The fire was brought under control and the scene cleared within 90 minutes. Units from South Orange, East Orange and Montclair provided coverage at township firehouses, police also said.

Police: Man Thrown to Ground, Beaten, Robbed on Valley Road

West Orange Police are searching for two 20-year-old men who allegedly assaulted West Orange man Wednesday evening.

Police are searching for two men who allegedly assaulted and robbed a West Orange man on Valley Road Wednesday evening, officials said. According to the report, the man was walking in the 500 block of Valley Road at about 7:30 p.m. when two men allegedly approached him from behind before pulling him to the ground by his neck. The two men started to punch and kick the man while he lay on the ground, police said.  The men allegedly stole a Samsung cellphone and $50 in cash from the man before they fled on Central Avenue towards Jefferson Street, police said.  The West Orange man told police he tried to catch the two after the assault, but lost sight of them on Jefferson Street. Police Pursue Man After Armed Carjacking

West Orange Police call in Essex County Sheriff and State Police to assist with K-9 units and a helicopter late Friday evening in a search for man wanted for alleged carjacking on Brook End Drive.

West Orange police are continuing to search for a man who allegedly used a BB gun to carjack a van on Brook End Drive in West Orange Friday night. Officials spent nearly two-hours searching for the suspect, necessitating the use of K-9 units and a State Police helicopter, officials said Monday. At about 11:10 p.m. March 1, a 47-year-old Hasbrouck Heights woman said she was approached by a man she said was wearing dark clothing and carrying a long handgun in the parking lot at St. Cloud Healthcare, located at 5 Brook End Drive, according to the report. Police: Fifth-Graders Involved in School Fire

West Orange police reported two fifth graders at Pleasantdale Elementary School were taken into custody following a bathroom fire on Feb. 21. According to the report, the boys, whose names were not released because of their ages, were transported to headquarters by the juvenile aid bureau following the incident. The fire, in the first-floor boys' restroom of the elementary school on Pleasant Valley Way, started about 1:40 p.m., West Orange Fire Capt. Robert Dsurney said. It is believed the fire started when paper towels inside a 50-gallon garbage can caught fire, police said. Llewellyn Park Man Handcuffed, Robbed at Gunpoint

Burglar allegedly snuck up on a 61-year-old West Orange resident as he parked his car in garage.

West Orange police are searching for a man who attempted to rob a 61-year-old Llewellyn Park homeowner with a semi-automatic handgun, officials said.  According to the police reports, the homeowner parked his car in his garage around 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 20 before getting out of the car and heading into his house. As he walked to his door, the burglar appeared with the gun. The burglar then threatened the resident by pointing his gun at the homeowner’s head, police said. The homeowner was then handcuffed and forced to lie on the garage floor. The house key was then removed from the resident’s key ring. $5,000 in Jewelry Stolen From Buckingham Road House

Home was burglarized last week, according to police.

Burglars made off with 15 pieces of jewelry valued at about $5,000 last week when a residence on Buckingham Road was burglarized, West Orange police said. The resident told police she left her house in the morning on Jan. 31. When she returned home at about 4:30 p.m., all the doors were still locked, but her home had been burglarized. Police suspect the burglar broke in through a rear window in basement. The resident told police $700 in cash, a laptop, gold pieces from a jewelry box and 15 pieces of combined gold rings, bracelets and necklaces were stolen.  An investigation is continuing.

Four Cars Burglarized, One Stolen in West Orange

West Orange police have had a busy week in the township, reporting five cars were burglarized and two were stolen — with one stolen car outrunning police in a chase through town and on Route 280 . Police reported six dollars was stolen from a 2009 Infinity G37 on Saint Cloud Avenue after the burglar broke in through the driver's side door on Jan. 21 at about 1:28 a.m. In a separate incident, police said sometime between 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 and 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 22, a Blue 2012 Kia Optima was stolen from the driveway of an Arverne Road residence. Police Investigate Manor Restaurant Car Theft

Trio steals Mercedes, keys to other cars from unlocked valet booth.

West Orange police are investigating a series of car thefts from the parking lot of The Manor Restaurant believed to have been carried out by a group of men witnesses say they saw parked in a nearby driveway, officials said. According to police, a valet at the restaurant, located at 111 Prospect Ave., reported seeing at least three men in a gray 2007 Acura TL on Saturday, Jan. 12 in the upper parking lot adjacent to the entrance of the driveway near the restaurant. The valet said the men quickly fled the area in their car as well as a white 2003 Mercedes Benz with vanity plates they allegedly stole from the upper parking lot.
