The 24-year veteran of the West Orange Police Department suspended without pay.

A complaint filed by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office alleges that longtime West Orange police Lt. Richard Levens falsified nearly $3,000 in overtime over the course of four months.  The complaint claims Levens submitted documents claming to work overtime hours knowing he did not work those hours or had only worked a portion of those hours, according to a report from NJ.com, citing the May 22 complaint. The alleged theft, a third-degree crime, is believed to have taken place from Nov. 28, 2012 to March 19, 2013. Levens was suspended without pay that day the complaint was signed. The 45-year-old is expected to appear in court on June 19.
