The school board met Wednesday night at West Orange High School. Here are five things you need to know. 1. School officials held a moment of silence to honor slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin. West Orange High School student Kahina Jean-Baptiste spoke about "Hoodie Day," a silent protest that will take place at the high school on Friday to show support for Martin who was shot to death by a neighborhood watch volunteer. "I'm very pleased the students want to take a stand for something they feel strongly about," Superintendent of West Orange Schools Dr. Anthony Cavanna said. Drama students honored, parents complain about midterms, mid-year report presented

The West Orange Board of Education met Monday night at the administration building. Here are five things you need to know. 1. Drama students were recognized Monday night for their participation in various acting competitions. The students participate in the high school drama club and drama productions after school. Jesse Lab, Clarissa Lotson, Raul Ausa and Joey Piserchio were present at the meeting and honored by the school board. 2. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Anthony Cavanna gave a district report on the the harassment, intimidation and bullying legislation. Wednesday Sept. 7, the morning bell will ring marking the official back to school start of the 2011-2012 school year. In separate mailings last month parents received correspondence regarding student class assignments and bus transportation from their enrolled schools and the department of transportation respectively. In conjunction with the already disseminated information, here are five things to help keep you informed as the school year starts. 1.
