Pet of the Week: Picassa

This beautiful cat is looking for a home.

They say that the eyes never lie and that is certainly true of this gorgeous kitty. Picassa's golden eyes say one thing when she looks at you "I might be gorgeous, but I want to be loved." This unique looking cat is a buff swirl tabby who is about 6 months of age. She came in to the shelter with a brother and a sister. Picassa and her sister, Paloma, are still waiting patiently for their "forever" homes. They are the perfect age to introduce into a new family. Could that family be yours? To visit Picassa or any of the adoptable animals at the West Orange Animal Welfare League, come to our next adoption day, Saturday, February 2nd. Adoption days are from 11am-3pm at the Alex Caprio Animal Control Facility at 311 Watchung Avenue in West …

It's Adoption Day at the West Orange Animal Welfare League.

There are many great animals that need a home.  Suzuki and Harley, one of her kittens, have been waiting to find permanent homes since June, according to the WOAWL. Suzuki has a wonderful temperament and gorgeous, medium-to-long, lustrous, black and white fur. Harley, also, black and white, is now 7 months old. He loves to goof around and play. They are both up-to-date on their shots and have been altered.  To visit Suzuki and Harley, or any of the adoptable animals at the West Orange Animal Welfare League, come to their next adoption day on Saturday from 11am-3pm at the Alex Caprio Animal Control Facility at 311 Watchung Avenue in West Orange (…

Cute Kitten Needs a Home

West Orange Animal Welfare League hosts Adoption Day on Saturday

The West Orange Animal Welfare League will host Adoption Day on Saturday, Oct. 20. There are many great animals that need a home. One is Shazam, an adorable brown tabby kitten. Shazam was found with her two sisters with no momma cat in sight. They were brought to the animal control facility and now the other two kittens have been adopted and Shazam is alone. This four-month old brown tabby is adorable and has a darling personality to match. Although Shazam is safe, she misses her sisters and longs for a home of her own. She is waiting patiently for a new family to fill that void. To visit Shazam or any of the adoptable animals at the West Orange Animal Welfare League, come to their next adoption day on Saturday from 11am-3pm at the Alex …

Adopt a Pet this Weekend!

Many Ways to Help Pets at West Orange Animal Welfare League

Who could resist these furry faces? These 5-week-old kittens are just a few of the animals available for adoption this Saturday at the West Orange Animal Welfare League. Elaine Gibson, the head volunteer at WOAWL, recently gave Patch a tour of the facilities. The organization has been around since 1977 and Gibson has been cuddling and caring for the animals on her own time since 1982.   “I’m happy if I place even one on a Saturday. I consider just one a victory. Everything after that is great,” said Gibson. All the helpers at the facility are volunteers who share the common goal of preventing the needless killing of abandoned and unwanted animals by finding them homes. Although West Orange has an Animal Control facility-- owned and managed…

Pet of the Week: Meet Sweetums

Yellow lab/collie mix has sweet, loving disposition.

Sweetums got his name because of his exceptional disposition. He may be down on his luck, but that hasn't affected this yellow lab/collie mix's sweet and loving nature. Sweetums is probably 3 or 4 years of age and weighs approximately 70 pounds. Sweetums may have lived outside most of his life. He was brought in as a stray, but we think that he had an owner that could no longer care for him. His nails were worn down and initially, his teeth had a lot of tartar. He tries to keep his run clean and runs to go out as soon as he is put on a leash, so he is likely housebroken. He has his rabies, distemper & bordetella vaccinations. Since at the facility, Sweetums has shown how grateful he is for love and attention. He really deserves to finally …

Fahoury Ink will mark National Adopt a Shelter Pet month

For the second year in a row, Fahoury Ink is marking National Adopt a Shelter Pet month by donating 10 percent of its October billings to the West Orange Animal Welfare League (WOAWL) to benefit homeless pets. Last October, Fahoury Ink, a copywriting business in West Orange, raised more than $2,200 for the organization. “It was the best month in our company’s 11-year history, a combination of new business and long-time clients who were determined to make their projects count toward the total,” company owner Lisa Fahoury said adding, “What an amazing feeling to be able to hand over such a sizeable check! I’m so grateful for the clients we’re privileged to work with every day.”  Fahoury, a West Orange resident, has firsthand experience with …
