Pool Registration Night and More Meetings This Week Ahead

Here's what is going on around town this week in West Orange.

On Monday, the Open Space Commission is set to meet at 7 p.m. in Conference Room 109 at West Orange Town Hall, 66 Main Street. On Wednesday, the township Recreation Department will host a 'Registration Night' at the Ginny Duenkel Pool, 60 1/2 Cherry Street, between 4:30 and 7 p.m. This will be the last chance for residents to get the early bird rate for pool membership. In early March the council agreed to keep the 2013 fees at the township’s Ginny Dunkel Pool the same as last year. The coucil also agreed to consider raising fees next year. Also on Wednesday, a Downtown Alliance meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers in Town Hall, 66 Main Street. Council to Introduce Local Shopping Reward Program This Week Ahead

Here's what's going on in West Orange this week.

On Monday, West Orange's Board of Education meeting is scheduled for 8 p.m at West Orange High School, 51 Conforti Ave. Agenda is attached for review.  Since the last meeting, the West Orange High School and elementary schools throughout the district have received report cards and rankings from the state.  The high school ranked high among its peers and so did the elemetary schools. On Tuesday, the West Orange Township Council will convene at 7 p.m. in West Orange Town Hall, 66 Main Street. Agenda attached.  In the meeting the council is slated to approve a Property Tax Rewards Program as part of the West Orange Shop Local Campaign. In theory it sound good, but with all of the crime in West Orange who wants to risk their life shopping in WO for a few pennies off the tax bill. How about the council stop approving spending on frivolous things like they are drunken sailors and then we all save.   more ›

Race for the Cure, Free Comic Book Day and MS Art Reception Week Ahead

Check out what's going on in West Orange this week.

This week in West Orange the Board of Education and township have the week off for meetings but there is plenty to keep residents busy around town. On Tuesday,  JCC Metrowest will host its Life Long Learning lectures with Professor Benjamin Nelson as the speaker. This week the American Jewish Novels being discussed are: Nicole Krauss'Great House, Michael Chabons The Yiddish Policeman's Union and Philip Roth's final novel, Nemesis. On Wednesday, the Middle School will host an Art Reception at the West Orange Public Library at 6 p.m. The school encourages residents to stop in to check out the art or to support the young artist in your family. Township Council Meets Tuesday This Week Ahead

Here's what is going on around town this week in West Orange.

On Monday, the Human Relations Commission will meet at 7 p.m. in town hall, 66 Main St.  On Tuesday, the West Orange Township Council will convene at 7 p.m. in West Orange Town Hall, 66 Main Street. School Board Meeting and Firefighters Promotion, Swearing-In Ceremony This Week Ahead

Here's what is going on around town this week in West Orange.

On Monday, West Orange's Board of Education meeting is scheduled for 8 p.m at West Orange High School, 51 Conforti Ave. Agenda is attached for review.  In its last meeting, the West Orange Board of Education unanimously approved the $141,460,056 2013-14 school budget that will include a 2.48-percent tax increase. On Tuesday, the West Orange Fire Department will hold a swearing-in ceremony at 5:30 p.m. at Liberty Middle Scool. Fourteen recruits will be sworn-in as probationary firefighters as well as two firefighters promoted to fire captains. Throughout the week, all West Orange public schools will be closed for spring recess. District offices are closed Monday and Tuesday and will be back in office Wednesday.  Looking for some things to do with your kids this week?  Check out John Arthur's blog post of April events happening at the library. Head to the West Orange Public Library's website to sign up for classes throughout the month.  On Monday the library is hosting an open mic night for teens at 7 p.m.  Wednesday, the Planning Board is set to meet at 7:30 p.m. in Town Hall, 66 Main Street in Council Chambers. School Board to Approve Budget:This Week Ahead

Here's what is on the agenda for West Orange this week.

On Monday, the Jewish festival of Passover begins at sundown. For a schedule of Passover services at synagogues around West Orange head to their websites.  Ticket sales for Senior Spring Fling continue Monday through Wednesday in Town Hall, Room 207 from 9 a.m. to noon on a first come first serve basis.  Non-residents must belong to a West Orange Senior Club. On Wednesday, the Board of Education is slated to approve the 2013-2014 school budget with a full presentation for the public at 8 p.m. in the High School.  The school district announced Friday the expected school tax increase will be 1.29 percent or less, a spokesperson for the district said.  The proposed 1.29 percent tax increase, for an average assessed home at $339,000, would …

Monday, the Human Relations Commission will meet at 7 p.m. in town hall, 66 Main Street. On Tuesday, the West Orange Township Council will convene at 7 p.m. in West Orange Town Hall, 66 Main Street. Board to Approve Preliminary School Budget in The Week Ahead

Here's what’s on the agenda for West Orange this week.

On Monday, the West Orange Board of Education meeting is set to meet at 8 p.m. in the West Orange High School Library Media Center. At this meeting, the board is set to approve a tentative budget. The district received welcome news last week when state aid figures revealed the district’s state aid figures for next year would remain flat. Interim Superintendent James O'Neill says he is delighted the district funding will remain flat. Total school spending is going from $139,506,106.00 in fiscal 2012-2013 to $143,125,055.00 or $3,618,349.00 up in a low or no inflation period. This is up over 2.5%.
