West Orange police reported eight accidents late afternoon Monday.
Monday's wintry mix caused multiple accidents throughout West Orange as drivers slid on slick roads during the late afternoon, officials said. West Orange police reported eight accidents throughout town, with most occurring on Northfield Avenue. The first accident was reported at 5:15 p.m. and the trend steadily continued until 8 p.m., West Orange police said. According to police, there were three accidents on Northfield Avenue. Accidents were also reported on Prospect Avenue, Eagle Rock Avenue, Walker Avenue, Harrison Avenue and inside the Essex Green Shopping Center, police said. All injuries were minor and non-life threatening, police said, and none of the injured were taken to the hospital, police said.

Precipitation expected to begin Wednesday, linger until Thursday, meteorologist says.
What many hope will be the final snowfall of the winter season is expected to be mild in accumulation but heavy in wind gusts, according to the National Weather Service. A low-pressure system making its way through the Mid-Atlantic is approaching New Jersey and will bring approximately two inches of precipitation to the northern portion of the state Wednesday through Thursday, National Weather Service meteorologist Mitchell Gaines said. Snowfall is expected to begin early Wednesday, then mix with rain in the afternoon and return to snow by night, Gaines said. Winds will gust between 20 and 25 miles-per-hour, Gaines said, but could climb to as high as 40 miles-per-hour at times. Lingering rainfall will end by Thursday morning, Gaines said.

West Orange school district has announced an early dismissal for all township schools on Friday Feb. 8 in anticipation of winter storm Nemo. In preparation for winter storm Nemo, there will be no parking on all county roads in West Orange after 2 p.m. on Friday so snow can be removed, officials said. Tow away zone laws will be enforced as well, the township said. In addition, all roads and senior buildings in the township's parks system will be closed on Friday at 2 p.m. Essex County has announced a snow emergency beginning at 2 p.m.

A winter weather advisory for West Orange and the rest of Essex could cause hazardous travel on Monday, National Weather Service says.
The National Weather Service is saying the current sleet and snow could cause a hazardous commute on Monday afternoon. A winter weather advisory is in effect for Western Essex on Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Snow and sleet is predicted during the day Monday with an accumulations of up to an inch. In the afternoon, the weather precipitation will change to freezing rain and sleet during rush hour. Other areas in weather advisory include eastern and western Passaic county, eastern and western Bergen county and eastern and western Essex county.

Sleet and snow could cause a hazardous morning commute through the afternoon on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. A winter weather advisory is in effect for Western Essex for Wednesday from 12 a.m. to 4 p.m. Snow and sleet are predicted to start late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning with accumulations up to an inch. Other areas in weather advisory: Eastern Passaic, NJ; Western Bergen, NJ; Eastern Bergen, NJ and Western Union, NJ.

Stormy weather leads to fender-benders throughout county.
Updated 4: 30 p.m. During this December storm, accidents and weather conditions are closing roads throughout Essex County. In Livingston, there was a four-car accident reported around 3:30 p.m. northbound on Eisenhower Parkway causing lane closures near the Roseland border, police said. Also reported, on East Hobart Gap Road a car hit a tree near Meadowbrook Road in Livingston. In South Orange, police have closed the "S" curves on South Orange Avenue through the South Mountain Reservation that stretching from South Orange into Millburn at about 3:45 p.m. Bloomfield Avenue is reportedly very congested Trains and buses are cross-honoring today.
