Shul Spiel: B’nai Shalom

What's Happening in West Orange Synagogues?

This week's focus returns to B'nai Shalom, 300 Pleasant Valley Way.

In addition to our active calendar of programs and events, we are proud to announce to exciting developments this month at B'nai Shalom. Hagit Yaso Benefit Concert: B'nai Shalom is thrilled to welcome the stunning Israeli singer Hagit Yaso to a one-night only concert on Saturday Jan. 12, at 7:30 p.m. to support, in part, our Jewish National Fund water reclamation program in Kiryat Yovel, Jerusalem.  Yaso is absolutely amazing to hear.  Born of Ethiopian Jews in Sederot, she was raised amidst the fear and joy of that border town near Gaza.  Happy, beautiful and talented, Yaso sings in four languages and was the overwhelming victor in Israel's Kochav Nolad - American Idol style - television show last year.  Her arrival is sponsored by the …

What's Happening in West Orange Synagogues

This week's focus returns to Congregation Ahawas Achim Bnai Jacob & David.

As the winter weather is getting colder we are doing as much to keep busy here at Congregation AABJ&D. We have had both educational and social events that have been a major hit! In response to Hurricane Sandy the members of our Shul joined together to do what they can to help the people who were affected the most. We collected toiletries, clothing and warm coats just to name a few of the things people who were left with nothing needed. We also took part in an OHEL Chanukah toy drive to collect toys for children and young adults who are less fortunate than we are. We are so proud of the response and outpour we received from our members. Our youth directors, Daniella and Dovi are busy planning fun and exciting activates for our children to …

Shul Spiel: Lubavitch Center of Essex County

What's Happening in West Orange Synagogues?

This week's focus returns to the Lubavitch Center of Essex County.

I had been looking forward to the International Conference of Chabad-Lubavitch Emissaries that began this past Wednesday in Brooklyn, N.Y., with intense anticipation. Having been focused the previous week on relief efforts and community rebuilding following Hurricane Sandy, I was thrilled to have the several days of workshops, classes and lectures more than ever. I was just one of thousands of emissaries who came to New York from points all across the globe. It gave me a chance to recharge my batteries. It’s something I look forward to all year, something that gives me a spiritual boost and a lot of energy. That was my chance to recharge, however. Please join me Monday, November 19, 7:30-9 p.m., to recharge your own spiritual batteries at …

Shul Spiel: B’nai Shalom

What's Happening at West Orange Synagogues

This week's focus returns to B'nai Shalom on Pleasant Valley Way.

Israel Initiatives at B’nai Shalom: Israel has been, and remains the heartland of Jewish existence. And as a modern American ally with shared values, Israel is a natural partner for social, economic and political relationships. Israel and America have much to experience together. That is why B’nai Shalom is focusing on Israel initiatives this year. We were fortunate to welcome Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren to our congregation on Rosh Hashanah.  And our Israel Bonds appeal nearly doubled this year in response to his message. We are launching an Israel Fair on Saturday night Oct. 27 with a concert and Israeli arts and crafts for sale.  On Sunday, Oct. 28, we’ll experience an Israeli martial arts Krav Maga exhibition, and on Tuesday Oct. 30…

This past month at the Lubavitch Center Shul has been jam-packed with programs, classes, softball games, and much more!  We recently completed our six-week Jewish Learning Institute course titled, “The Art of Marriage.” All of the participants gained a wealth of knowledge in addition to practical tips to enhance their relationships. Shul Spiel: B’nai Shalom

What's Happening at Local West Orange Synagogues?

This week's focus returns to B'nai Shalom to talk about summer programming and lectures.

You CAN take it with you. All around the country, people are going on vacation and leaving their synagogues behind with empty seats and high air conditioning bills. Not here at The Conservative Synagogue! Here we are looking forward to a vibrant summer of services and learning.  I find the summertime to be a particularly uplifting season spiritually and Jewish-ly. The days are long, and invite quiet moments of contemplation along with frolicking times of family fun. In these warm days we often feel the blessings of God all around us. What an opportunity. One of my favorite activities in the summertime is to be “out there” in nature. I love hiking, camping, biking, boating – you name it. Anywhere with a view or a sunset, and I am happy. And…
