In Good Company

Mom.com comes to town

This new site brings you the deals as they support local businesses, hire local moms

The first thing I do when I open my email each morning, is sift through the 10 or so deal and sale emails I get. I delete most of them, but I'm hesitant to unsubscribe from the sites, because I might miss out on that one great deal. Group discount offers seem to be popping up all over. Even stores are starting to do group buying or deal offering emails. I got one the other day from a site I used to pay for a race registration. That means that what you see on sale this week is likely to be on sale again in three months' time. If you…

There can be a difference between what you and a health insurance company consider healthy. Some insurers will say that you have a health condition if you smoke, are overweight, are taking prescriptions, or had a medical condition in the past. If this describes you, you may want to search and read “Wise Health Insurance” on the web.   more ›

Fabric Finds: Favorite Local, Online Shops

Making your own clothes, decorations

My mom loves yarn. She is an accomplished knitter and fashions intricate, perfect, beautiful wearable art out of her yarns. She loves everything about shopping for yarn, both in person and online. For me, it's fabric. I couldn't tell you why, but I just love fabric. I don't just buy fabric, I use it to make all kinds of things for around the house. And, like most other fabric-lovers, I too, have a stash of The-Unused-But-Fabulous-For-Something in my closet. I like to make things for the house. I'm not versed in making clothing. It's so complex and I am so impatient. But I love being able to whip up a new pillow cover or to transform the colors in the bedroom by making a new duvet cover or bedspread. One of my favorite fabric haunts for …
