Authorities say the man who robbed a Caldwell bank Thursday unsuccessfully attempted to rob a West Orange bank an hour earlier.
Local police and the FBI are searching for a man who allegedly robbed a bank in Caldwell just one hour after he attempted to rob a West Orange bank late Thursday afternoon, officials announced Friday. According to officials in the Newark FBI office, the man entered the Wells Fargo Bank at 412 Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange at about 5 p.m. on April 18 and demanded money before fleeing without any cash. About an hour later, police believe the same man robbed a PNC Bank at 423 Bloomfield Ave. in Caldwell. Police have not released the amount of money taken. Suspect stole a few hundred dollars of art supplies from the Essex Green Shopping Center store at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, police say.
West Orange police have arrested a suspect believed to be involved in a strong-armed robbery at Jerry's Artist Outlet in Essex Green Shopping Center Wednesday, officials said. According to police, the suspect stole a few hundred dollars worth of art supplies, using force to exit the store at around 12:24 p.m. on April 3. A UPS driver in the parking lot described the suspect's car to police who stopped him before he entered Route 280 in West Orange, police said. West Orange police have not released any information on the alleged robber and the incident is still under investigation. The alleged theft occurred just three days after a West Orange man was robbed of his car at gunpoint in the parking lot of the same shopping center. Check back …

Police are searching for two men who allegedly assaulted and robbed a West Orange man on Valley Road Wednesday evening, officials said. According to the report, the man was walking in the 500 block of Valley Road at about 7:30 p.m. when two men allegedly approached him from behind before pulling him to the ground by his neck. The two men started to punch and kick the man while he lay on the ground, police said. The men allegedly stole a Samsung cellphone and $50 in cash from the man before they fled on Central Avenue towards Jefferson Street, police said. Man with knife attempts at Bank of America a day after a someone tried to rob a woman at same ATM.
Two men allegedly tried to rob a 55-year-old West Orange man at a Main Street bank ATM on Feb. 2 before fleeing without any money, West Orange police reported. The attempted robbery occurred one day after a man tried to rob at woman with a note at the same ATM. In the Feb. 2 incident, the West Orange man started to withdraw money from the Bank of America, 59 Main St., around 9:45 p.m. when a man he didn't know walked out of the bank, police said. Police: Garage doors appear to have been rammed by car.
West Orange police are looking for a driver who used a car to damage two garage doors of a Northfield Avenue apartment complex and steal a $1,500 snowblower. Police said the entire wood frame on either side of each garage was damaged when officers arrived at around 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 5. Police said the snowblower was stolen from the first garage, but nothing was reported stolen out of the second garage. The garages were both below an apartment, but according to police, there was no way into the apartments through the garages.

Woman says man approached her at bank ATM.
A man allegedly attempted to rob a woman with a note at a Main Street ATM on Feb. 1, West Orange police reported. According to police, the woman was withdrawing money from an ATM at the Bank of America branch at 59 Main St. at about 8:15 p.m. when she was approached by a man she didn’t know. The man, described as between 26 and 28 years old and approximately 6-feet tall and around 200 lbs., told her to read the note he held in his hands, police said. West Orange police are searching for a man who entered the TD Bank at Pleasant Valley Way Monday, brandishing a handgun and demanded cash from a teller before fleeing with an undetermined amount of money. According to West Orange police Sgt. John Palardy, the man, described as white, with glasses and wearing a dark baseball cap facing backwards, approached a bank teller at approximately 1:15 p.m. The man showed the teller a silver semi-automatic handgun, Palardy said. West Orange High School was placed on a modified lockdown from 1:30-2 p.m. because of the incident, due to the school's proximity to the bank. A man suspected in more than 150 commercial burglaries in four New Jersey counties over the last two years has been caught on surveillance tape by the West Orange Police Department. The video of the serial burglar's last known job, on Nov. 18 at 4:30 a.m., at the #1 Chinese Kitchen on Main Street, depicts the man breaking into the restaurant by smashing the lower half of a glass door, crawling through the opening, and rummaging through the cash register. A man with a handgun attempted to rob the attendant at the Delta gas station on Central Avenue on Thursday.
A 63-year-old gas station attendant fought back against a man trying to rob him at gunpoint this week. At about 9 p.m. on Thursday, a man with a handgun and blue mask covering his face attempted to rob the attendant at the Delta gas station, at 3 Central Ave. Instead of handing over the cash, the attendant refused and put up a fight, according to police. The 63-year-old man was punched in the face, and then the man with the handgun fled without taking any money, according to police. The attendant received minor bruising to his face and cheek. Elderly woman involved in strong-armed robbery.
An elderly woman was robbed recently while in the Kmart parking lot, according to police. The 69-year-old woman was going through the trunk of her car parked at Kmart, 295 Prospect Ave., at around 3 p.m. on Monday when a man approached her from behind and grabbed her purse. The woman struggled with the man until the purse straps broke, causing her to fall to the ground. She injured her wrist in the fall. The woman was robbed of $60 in cash, a cell phone, and various documents, according to police. The man took the purse and ran to a waiting car, described as silver with four doors.
