West Orange's interim superintendent received a standing ovation Thursday night when he told a group of more than a hundred Hazel community members that Edwin Acevedo would remain principal at the elementary school. "The board and I have revisited our options," Interim Superintendent James O'Neill said. "We looked at them carefully and we have opted to implement a number of changes next year we believe will benefit the students in Edison." West Orange High School officially has a new principal. Hayden Moore was unanimously appointed as principal of the high school by the Board of Education at its meeting on Monday in the WOHS library. Moore has been in the district for the past 15 years, of which 12 years have been at the high school. He has held various positions during his tenure there, including dean of students and, most recently, assistant principal. “There is no place like home,” said Moore to a crowd of more than 100 teachers, staff members, administrators and parents who turned out for the appointment that evening. BOE will convene to discuss 'personnel matters.'
The Board of Education posted on its website yesterday that it will meet for a special meeting at 5 p.m. tonight in the district administration building, 179 Eagle Rock Ave. The brief announcement stated the meeting was called to discuss "personnel matters." No further information was released. The most recent personnel matter in the district was announced earlier this month when Superintendent Anthony Cavanna made his choice for West Orange High School principal: Hayden Moore. On Monday, July 2, the West Orange School District issued a press release stating that Hayden Moore, 41, is expected to be the next principal of the high school. Superintendent Anthony Cavanna will recommend to the Board of Education to appoint Moore as principal of the high school when they meet on July 23 at 8 p.m. at the district's Administration Building, 179 Eagle Rock Ave. It will then be up to the board to accept or reject the recommendation. I guess the board cowarded because this information was leaked before they had a chance to implement it. The board's mindset is it is their way or the highway! The voters voted for this incompetence back in November and this is what the got! Maybe they should move so do nothing administrators into the buildings and have them work for a change!
