The nominee of the Republican party for vice president visits a Short Hills resident's house.
Paul Ryan, the Republican party vice presidential nominee, is attending a reception at a Millburn-Short Hills residence Saturday afternoon. The Wisconsin Congressman plans to visits Judy and Bill Greenblatt's home on Stewart Road in Short Hills at 4:30 p.m. Vistors are asked to arrive at 4 p.m. for a security check. The Greenblatts run a non-profit organization, Greenblatt Family Charitable Tr, which provides private grants, according to fundraise.com. The invitation suggests contributions of $1,000 to attend and $5,000 for a photo opportunity. Ryan's not the only GOP on the ticket to come to town. New Jersey Republican and Democratic insiders believe Mitt Romney's VP pick will galvanize each of their parties in the state, but they're divided whether Paul Ryan is a better choice than Chris Christie. Of the 24 Republican respondents to Patch's flash poll this weekend, 25 percent strongly agree and 25 percent strongly disagree with the statement, "Paul Ryan is a stronger VP candidate than Chris Christie would have been." Nearly 17 percent said they somewhat agreed with the statement, while 12.5 percent somewhat disagreed and 20.8 percent were not sure. However, more than 50 percent of the 27 Democratic respondents either strongly agreed or somewhat agreed that Ryan was the better choice, while 18.5 percent somewhat disagreed and 11.1 …

After months of rumors that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie would be tapped as the GOP vice president nomineee, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney instead chose Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan on Saturday for the spot. Christie may now have the opportunity to serve as the GOP convention's keynote speaker later this month in Tampa, Fla. The team of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will take on Barack Obama and Joe Biden in November. Romney and Ryan, a Wisconson Republican congressman, teamed up in Norfolk, Va., this morning to make the official announcement, although details leaked out hours before. Ryan is considered a rising star in the GOP and is best known for his proposed budget, which called for an overhaul of Medicare.
