Additional officers, both in uniform and dressed in plain clothes, will patrol the transit system, according to spokesperson.

You have been misled, the WMDs absolutely existed because Rumsfield sold them to them to Iraq during the Ford and Reagan years, unfortunately they and about $100 million in cold hard US currency was smuggled out of Iraq into Iran and Syria and god knows where else before we could get in there and reclaim them. The Mustard Gas Saddam used on the Kurds was compliments of the USA. Most folks forget…   more ›

Report: NJ Transit Customer Satisfaction at All-Time High

Nearly 4 out of 5 post-Sandy survey respondents now say they would recommend transportation agency to friend, relative.

A new customer satisfaction survey of New Jersey Transit customer’s post-Superstorm Sandy has overwhelmingly endorsed the job the agency has been doing, according to an announcement by the Christie administration and the agency Tuesday. In the online survey conducted Feb. 4 through February 25, or during the third quarter of the agency’s fiscal year, nearly four in five customers, or nearly 14,000 participants on the agency's website (njtransit.com) said they would recommend NJ Transit to a friend or relative. The results mark a new high for the statewide public transit agency. The survey asked bus, rail, light rail and Access Link customers to rate the agency on a scale of 0 to 10 and asked riders to also consider 41 attributes of the …

Why bother complaining? The fix is in, as it is in every area of this state. It doesn't matter who you vote for. Christie was 100 percent behind the fare hikes. NJT will continue to have bloated payrolls and overpaid workers, and will continue to raise fares. But at least you'll get a pretty brochure on your train seat every so often.   more ›

The "temporary" schedule was better. There is a 7:00 out of Brick Church. The next train to Penn isn't until 7:45. There are Hoboken trains from Orange and Brick Church between those two, but no connections at Broad Street. Since Sandy, there has been a 7:36 to NY from Newark Broad, which fills the space between the 7 and 7:45 (via a connection from Orange or Brick Church), but that train is now …   more ›

Commuters Send Open Letter to NJ Transit

An open letter to NJ Transit provided to Patch: Mr. James Weinstein NJ TRANSIT Corporation One Penn Plaza East Newark, NJ  07105   Re:  South Orange Train Station Village Schedule   Dear Mr. Weinstein:   As NJ Transit customers and community stakeholders, we are contacting you to collectively reiterate and emphasize the importance of restoring acceptable levels of service to the South Orange train station — specifically those that existed before the latest schedule change that took effect on October 14, 2012. Your latest accomplishment of being able to restore all commuter train service to New York to pre-Hurricane Sandy levels is to be commended. Despite the extensive damage caused by this storm to your rail cars and trains, you were …

I'm confused. Democracy works when voices are heard from people AND leaders. Govt is elected to help a populace. S.O. officials met w/NJ Transit w/Peoples' letters in hand; people called, giving feedback as "NJ Transit was "fixing" what wasnt broken" and it didnt make sense. If I still commuted to NY, I'd have been vocal - do you? So, it's not ok to want data to support why schedules changed? Its…   more ›

I would expect NJ Transit to have a feedback or suggestion space in their website, but it is not so. We would like to send requests as so bus schedules that conflict with bus schedules. Bus 822 arrives at Plainfield Bus station at 1.38pm when the train is arriving and leaves before the train passengers can alight to board it, so they are forced to take a taxi. NJ Transit Cross-Honoring Tickets During Storm

Cross-honoring in effect through Thursday.

As the area braces for a potential three-to-five inches of tardy snow (not quite a White Christmas, but close, right?), NJ Transit announced that it would be cross-honoring of tickets starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Cross-honoring will remain in effect until the end of the service day Thursday, Dec. 27, enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode—rail, bus or light rail. For example, customers who normally take the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal may use their bus pass on the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station. Similarly, customers who normally take the bus between Atlantic City and Lindenwold may use the train instead. Customers are reminded that many NJ Transit rail lines …

Typical NJ Transit. They will cross-honor tickets during the storm. They should do that all the time! There shouldn't be a difference between having a bus ticket or a rail ticket, it's all going to the same pocket- NJ Transit. It would be helpful if NJT would, at some point, let customers know what their travel options are if rail is out. For example, if service goes out on the Morris & Essex …   more ›

South Orange Asks NJ Transit for Restored Schedule, Service

Village takes official action, asking NJ Transit to alter the current South Orange train schedule

The Village of South Orange formally asked NJ Transit for the restoration of schedule and service to the pre-October 14, 2012 level. Trustees voted Monday  to pass resolution 2012-283 (attached as a pdf) noting the "negative impact to quality of life, property values and business productivity" of recent transit changes. The resolution notes that South Orange sees 3,800 riders daily. The South Orange station is also fully-accessible, and is a designated "Transit Village." The station serves commuters from South Orange, Maplewood, Livingston and West Orange. South Orange previously addressed the issue of the new schedule; in mid-October, as commuters reacted to a changed New Jersey Transit schedule, the Village of South Orange released the …

NJ Transit to Cross-Honor Tickets Due to Storm

Winter weather event expected to bring rain, snow to region on Tuesday.

You know December is just around the corner when stories like this start coming out. As the region prepares for winter while continuing to recover from Sandy, another storm is predicted to hit the area late Monday evening into Tuesday, providing rain and snow and ensuring messy commutes. NJ Transit will cross-honor tickets all day on Tuesday, "enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode-rail, bus or light rail," according to a press release.
