A new customer satisfaction survey of New Jersey Transit customer’s post-Superstorm Sandy has overwhelmingly endorsed the job the agency has been doing, according to an announcement by the Christie administration and the agency Tuesday. In the online survey conducted Feb. 4 through February 25, or during the third quarter of the agency’s fiscal year, nearly four in five customers, or nearly 14,000 participants on the agency's website (njtransit.com) said they would recommend NJ Transit to a friend or relative. The results mark a new high for the statewide public transit agency. The National Weather Service issued an alert on its website to anticipate a wintry mix of snow and rain during the afternoon.
In anticipation of snow and rain on Monday, DeCamp Bus Lines and NJ Transit will be cross-honoring tickets. DeCamp Bus Lines will be cross-honoring NJ Transit bus and rail tickets through throughout Monday. The bus line posted on its website to anticipate delays. NJ Transit will allow customers to use tickets or passes for an alternate travel mode — rail, bus or light rail, as well as private carrier buses — throughout Monday. West Orange resident will need to slightly adjust their schedules following NJ Transit's announcement to reduce commuting time and add trains. The township has released new schedules for the free jitney service to South Orange and Orange train stations starting Monday, March 25 with the new train times. NJ Transit announced recently, four of the Midtown Direct trains schedules will be adjusted to reduce travel time at the South Orange train station. As of March 24, West Orange commuters should benefit from NJ Transit's system-wide schedule adjustments and added trains. As the area braces for a potential three-to-five inches of tardy snow (not quite a White Christmas, but close, right?), NJ Transit announced that it would be cross-honoring of tickets starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Cross-honoring will remain in effect until the end of the service day Thursday, Dec. 27, enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode—rail, bus or light rail. For example, customers who normally take the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal may use their bus pass on the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station. Village takes official action, asking NJ Transit to alter the current South Orange train schedule
The Village of South Orange formally asked NJ Transit for the restoration of schedule and service to the pre-October 14, 2012 level. Trustees voted Monday to pass resolution 2012-283 (attached as a pdf) noting the "negative impact to quality of life, property values and business productivity" of recent transit changes. The resolution notes that South Orange sees 3,800 riders daily. The South Orange station is also fully-accessible, and is a designated "Transit Village." The station serves commuters from South Orange, Maplewood, Livingston and West Orange. Winter weather event expected to bring rain, snow to region on Tuesday.
