First Graders “Eat Green” for St. Patrick’s Day

For these kids, "eating green" means eating veggies and fruit

First Graders “Eat Green” for St. Patrick’s Day Lisa Marx’s 1st grade Mount Pleasant Elementary School class got into the St. Patrick’s spirit by “eating green.” The class feasted on celery, broccoli, sugar snap peas, honey dew melon, green grapes and green apples. Many children tried some of these foods for the first time and loved them. Prior to the feast, the class mom read them a book on healthy snacks. The children loved talking about their favorite vegetables and fruits. Like most schools in the area, Mount Pleasant has a strict no peanut policy, and encourages students to bring healthy snacks for lunch and snack time. Everyone was a Winner at Family Game Show Night!

Families at Mount Pleasant Elementary School Enjoyed a Fun-Filled Evening

What a great night! The Mount Pleasant PTA treated the school community to an incredible free night of sheer excitement, laughter and just plain good ole fun, at this year’s annual Family Game Show Night, at Mount Pleasant Elementary School. Parents and children competed in Game Show contests, Simon Says, Tug of War, Name That Tune, and so much more. Families competed in 1 minute-and 30-second Game Show trivia games by showing off their knowledge of math, geography and history. The teams with lower scores at the end of each round had the chance to catch up, via 30-second silly physical challenges, like tossing Frisbees onto plungers, which were stuck to parents’s heads, and tossing balls into baby potties (also located on parent’s heads). …

School Improvements in Store for Elementary Students

New Walkways, Boilers, Roof Top List

Come September 7, students at Hazel and Gregory Elementary Schools will notice some physical improvements greeting them on their first day. Among those improvements: new paving in the faculty parking lot at Gregory and new walkways at Hazel. Robert Csigi, Director of Building and Grounds with the West Orange Board of Education, said the improvements were needed because of "deterioration and age." Hazel students will see brick paths to the school’s main entrance — the area was previously unpaved. The school’s outdoor classroom area also received new steps and a pathway. Meredith Mitchell commented on Hazel Elementary school’s PTA website, "That is awesome! We are making such wonderful strides for our children’s future with these small steps…
