Essex County Golf Courses Offer Early Registration Discount

County gives golfers an incentive to renew or purchase an Adult ID card before Feb. 28.

Golfers who want to play on Essex County’s three public golf courses in 2013 have an incentive to register early. A $5 discount is being offered on new or renewed Adult ID cards purchased before Thursday, Feb. 28, according to the Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs. The discounted Adult Rate is $40 (regular fee is $45), other rates are not discounted. To Purchase or Renew Golf ID Cards Cards can be purchased or renewed in person at the Essex County Hendricks Field Golf Course Course, 220 Franklin Ave., in Belleville. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon. Golfers must show their current Golf ID card (if renewing) as well as proof of residency, which could be a …

Early registration discount? Interesting, I never would have thought of that. What a smart idea. That way you get all your regulars to show up with friends and get their ID cards. Caddies Walk to Remember 9/11

Men grab their golf bags and march to the World Trade Center from West Orange to honor and remember local victims.

  Parking their golf bags outside of the Shillelagh Club on Prospect Avenue soon after dawn on Tuesday, nearly a dozen men met inside the club to prepare themselves for the Be a Hero for Zero walk to the World Trade Center.  And for the past five year, golf caddies Greg Corbo and local resident Ken Cooke have been doing just that.  Corbo, from Lancaster, Pa., but who grew up in Montclair, began the walk in 2008 with Cooke to remember those in the area who died in attacks. Only Corbo and Cooke made the trek into the city those first two years. But last year there more, and this year they led about nine other caddies. “It is part of history. It was a national catastrophe,” said Corbo about the Sept. 11 terror attacks early Tuesday morning. “…

Seniors Tee Up for West Orange Golf Tournament

Golfers take the course on Monday at the Essex County Country Club.

  Many turned out to tee up at the Senior Golf Tournament at the Essex County Country Club on Monday.  The event was sponsored by the Recreation Department and Elks Lodge #1590.  The top winners from Monday's tournament were: • Seniors lowest score: Joe Serino with an 83; • Super senior lowest score: Paul Mudugno with a 94; • West Orange Elk lowest score: Bill Kehoe with a 92; • Closest to the pin: Mike Lennon; • Putting contest champion: Sam Jandoli; and • Longest Drive: Frank Rubinetti.  Like to golf?
