Nationwide, gas prices were predicted to be lower this summer compared to the last three years, but that won't translate into savings at the pump this Memorial Day weekend, experts said. "Motorists this year are facing rising gas prices heading into the Memorial Day holiday," said Michael Green, a AAA spokesman, adding that Memorial Day 2013 would probably be the most expensive since 2011. National Average Expected to Peak at $3.60-$3.80 Per Gallon This Year
The following is a release from AAA New Jersey: Gasoline prices this year will be less expensive than in 2012 as a result of increased domestic oil production and lower demand, according to AAA. The national average price of gasoline should peak at $3.60-$3.80 per gallon barring any significant unanticipated events, which compares to a peak of $3.94 a gallon in 2012. “Cheaper gas prices are good news for the millions of Americans that depend on their car to travel where they need to go,” said Cathleen Lewis, director of Public Affairs for AAA New Jersey. “Lower gasoline prices should translate into billions of dollars in tangible household savings given that the vast majority of Americans rely on automobiles to live their lives.” Gasoline …

That's the first monthly increase since March and the largest increase for July since at least 2000, when AAA began keeping records. If it seems like prices had been lower this summer, they were. Fuel costs had fallen for three consecutive months, reaching a summertime low of $3.326 July 2. By month's end, the national average had hit $3.50 (a high of $3.52 in New Jersey). In its most recent report, AAA predicts with "medium-high" …

President Barack Obama is pressing Congress to tighten regulations governing oil speculators.
President Barack Obama wants Congress to give oil-market regulators more power to keep speculators from manipulating oil prices, which can lead to higher costs at the pump, the Huffington Post reports. Obama is asking legislators to strengthen federal supervision of oil markets, increase penalties for market manipulation and empower regulators to increase the amount of money energy traders are required to put behind their transactions, the Huffington Post reports. "We can't afford a situation where some speculators can reap millions while millions of American families get the short end of the stick," Obama said Tuesday at the White House. AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in New Jersey on Friday was…
