South Orange Blues Festival This Sunday

This free concert series will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at South Mountain Reservation.

  Get your fill of the blues Sunday at the South Orange International Blues Festival.  The blues festival is part of the Essex County's SummerMusic Concert, and features innumerable local musicians. The concert will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at South Mountain Reservation, on Cheery Lane.  This free, day-long festival will be emceed by Johnny Ciao. Festival of Ballooning Lifts Off This Weekend

  A fleet of hot air balloons will overtake the sky this weekend as the Quick Check Festival of Ballooning celebrates its 30th year. But the festival, held Friday-Sunday, July 27-29, at the Solberg Airport in Readington, offers much, much more than ballooning. There are rides, an arts and crafts festival, yoga and Zumba demonstrations, and food—lots of it. Every evening, there will be a music concert and twice each day on Saturday and Sunday and once on Friday, more than 100 balloons will rise majestically into the sky. And Patch will offer all attendees a chance to leave all your troubles behind and take a free tethered balloon ride. State's largest celebration rolls through Newark on Memorial Day weekend

Newark's Broad Street was bursting with stunning skydivers, giant dinosaurs, spirited dancers and more Sunday for the 46th annual African-American Heritage Parade, the biggest cultural celebration in the state. The two-and-a-half hour parade, which spanned from Lincoln Park to Mulberry Street and Edison Place, was dedicated to the late Rep. Donald M. Payne Sr., with brother and former state Assemblyman William D. Payne serving as grand marshal. The longstanding parade, organized by the African-American Heritage Parade Commission, is the premier event of the four-day festival held every year at Weequahic Park.
