The most wanted woman in New Jersey history is now the first woman on the FBI's fugitive terrorist list. Joanne Chesimard, convicted of a murdering a state trooper in 1973, was added to the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorist list Thursday on the 40-year anniversary of the trooper's death. The FBI Newark Division held a press conference Thursday to announce the addition of Chesimard's name and the collaboration between federal and state law enforcement agencies in upping the reward for information that leads to her arrest to $2 million. Authorities say the man who robbed a Caldwell bank Thursday unsuccessfully attempted to rob a West Orange bank an hour earlier.
Local police and the FBI are searching for a man who allegedly robbed a bank in Caldwell just one hour after he attempted to rob a West Orange bank late Thursday afternoon, officials announced Friday. According to officials in the Newark FBI office, the man entered the Wells Fargo Bank at 412 Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange at about 5 p.m. on April 18 and demanded money before fleeing without any cash. About an hour later, police believe the same man robbed a PNC Bank at 423 Bloomfield Ave. in Caldwell. Police have not released the amount of money taken. FBI releases photos of Monday's robbery at TD Bank.
The FBI is seeking the public’s help identifying the man who robbed a TD Bank on Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange on Monday. The man, described by the FBI as approximately 5’10” tall and 210 lbs., with a large build, salt-and-pepper hair and a goatee, approached a bank teller at approximately 1:15 p.m., brandished a silver semi-automatic handgun and demanded money be placed into a blue bag, officials said. The man was described as wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses, a dark sweater, blue jeans and dark shoes, according to the FBI. After getting the money, officials said the man fled on foot and was seen walking north on Pleasant Valley Way. The FBI released several photos of the man on Wednesday. On Monday, The owner of Custom Design and Carpentry, LLC admitted to evading more than $100,000 in tax payments by depositing business checks into his personal accounts and failing to report that income, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced. Sing Chan, 32, pleaded guilty to one count of subscribing to false personal federal income tax returns. Chan entered his guilty plea before U.S. Magistrate Judge Patty Shwartz in Newark federal court. Chan is the owner of Custom Design and Carpentry, a construction and remodeling business. During 2008 and 2009, Chan sometimes received payment for services through checks made payable to Custom Design, and sometimes checks were made out to Chan directly. Michael Keigher, a detective sergeant with the West Orange Police Department, had the honor of attending the FBI National Academy earlier this year, according to township officials. Keigher, who graduated from the 10-week course on March 16, was nominated by West Orange Police Chief James Abbott to attend, township officials said. "It was a great experience," said Keigher. "I hope to bring the knowledge back to West Orange and the department." Other law enforcement officials from across the globe also got to attend the academy, which is located in Quantico, Virginia.
