Pair Busted with Pills, Heroin in Driveway Drug Deal, Police Say

West Orange police arrested a 41-year-old township resident and Orange man on Ashland Avenue earlier this week on alleged drug charges.

Following a brief surveillance, West Orange police broke up an alleged drug deal between a 41-year-old township man and an Orange man this week and recovered more than a dozen folds of heroin and prescription pills, officials said.  Vincent Cicenia of West Orange, and Patrick Wilkins were arrested Monday at about 6:45 p.m. on drug charges on Ashland Avenue, West Orange police said. According to police, Cicenia was talking on his cellphone and appeared to be suspiciously watching traffic and looking for someone.  Police set up surveillance and saw Cicenia wave a car into a driveway on Ashland Avenue. Local Pharmacist Charged With Selling Drugs Without Prescriptions

Federal agents took Leonard 'Lenny' Stefanelli of West Orange Pharmacy into custody on Monday.

  A West Orange pharmacist has been arrested and charged for selling oxycodone to those without a prescription, according to authorities.  Leonard “Lenny” Stefanelli, 48, of East Hanover, is part-owner and head pharmacist of the West Orange Pharmacy Inc., at 443 Main St. He was arrested Monday by the federal Drug Enforcement Agency.  Stefanelli is being charged by the US Attorney’s Office. Stefanelli made bail on Monday, but no date has been set for his arraignment, said Matthew Reilly, spokesperson for the US Attorney’s Office in New Jersey.  Agents from the federal agency could be seen at the pharmacy on Monday morning and afternoon taking boxes in and out of the store. Multi-County Probe Busts Violent Gang Drug Network

Morristown shooting began seven-month investigation into drug, gang and weapons activity.

Seventy law enforcement officers from four counties arrested 24 individuals Friday morning in a drug, gang and weapons sweep that began with an investigation into an attempted murder in Morristown last fall. Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi considered the bust "the largest in Morris County history." Bianchi detailed the police action at a press conference Saturday, June 2, at the Morris County administration building surrounded by representatives of the crime task force that worked on the case, including prosecutor’s offices from Warren, Essex and Union counties, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, Morris County Park Police, and 14 municipalities, including 11 from Morris County. West Orange man used Newark pharmacy to sell tens of thousands of painkillers

Attorney General Jeffrey S. Chiesa has announced that an Essex County man pleaded guilty today to leading a Newark-based narcotics ring that distributed millions of dollars a year in illegal prescription painkillers.   Mohamed Hassanain, 46, of West Orange, pleaded guilty to second-degree charges of racketeering and distribution of narcotics before Superior Court Judge Joseph C. Cassini III in Essex County.  Under the plea agreement, the state will recommend that Hassanain be sentenced to 15 years in state prison. Hassanain previously pleaded guilty in 2009 to racketeering and money laundering, both in the second-degree, but the court allowed him to withdraw that plea based on his claim that he was under the influence of narcotics when he …
