Man Resists Arrest After Burglarizing Car, Police Say

Kevin Beane, 47, of Newark, is being held on charges of theft, burglary and resisting arrest with bail set at $25,000.

A Newark man resisted arrest Monday afternoon after a West Orange family claimed the man broke into their car on Northfield Avenue, police said. Kevin Beane, 47, was arrested Monday at 1:20 p.m. at 81 Northfield Ave.  According to the report, the West Orange family saw Beane in a red KIA as they parked their car in the lot on Northfield Avenue about six spots away.  Upon returning to the lot, the family told police they saw Beane walking away from their car and thought it was suspicious. When the family got to their car, they saw the back window was shattered and called the West Orange police, the report said. Police Report Eight Burglaries, Thefts Throughout Township

An interactive map details recent burglaries reported to West Orange police over the last week in town, including $1,600 in varsity football jerseys and a theft from a car parked near the public library.

West Orange police are investigating a series of burglaries and thefts throughout the township over the past week, including a alleged burglary from a car parked in the municipal lot, at 4 Municipal Plaza on Friday afternoon. In that incident, the owner told police a $200 printer was taken from the car near the West Orange Public Library on March 29 at around 4 p.m. along with some paperwork and an umbrella.  Police are also investigating the alleged theft of 29 varsity football jerseys from a locked, gated area at West Orange High School. The high school's athletic director reported the alleged theft of the jerseys on March 25. School personnel told police they recovered 13 of the missing jerseys. Lost Driver Seeking Directions Allegedly Robbed

Woman told police she pulled into Crestmont County Club to ask for directions Saturday with $97 in her purse, but money missing after she spoke to valet .

A woman who was lost and sought directions from a country club valet Saturday night reported money was missing from her purse after she received the directions, police said. The woman pulled into the Crestmont Country Club, located at 750 Eagle Rock Ave. to ask for directions around 8 p.m. on March 16, police said. She told police her purse containing $97, which was visible on top, was on the passenger seat. As she pulled up, the woman told police, a male valet approached the car on the passenger's side and the woman rolled down that window. Thieves Net More Than $7,000 in Supplies, Equipment

West Orange police say roofing materials stolen from Gregory Avenue residence and landscaping accessories from Lakeside Avenue business.

West Orange police are investigating a series of burglaries that have occurred this week involving the theft of more than $7,000 in construction supplies and landscaping equipment, officials said.  One of the burglaries took place at a Lakeside Avenue business where multiple businesses store landscaping equipment, police said. According to police, more than $4,000 worth of landscaping equipment, including mowers and weedwackers, was stolen when the business was reportedly broken into Tuesday, March 12 around 1:30 p.m. Police are also investigating a burglary from a Gregory Avenue residence where $3,173 of roofing materials were stolen sometime between March 9 at 6 p.m. and March 11 at 10 a.m. The following items were reported stolen from …

Two Arrested in Alleged Afternoon Burglary

Jorge Zambrono, 26, and Jose Lima Delgato, 25, both of Orange, accused of burglarizing Bradley Terrace home Tuesday.

West Orange police arrested two Orange men Tuesday, March 5 in connection with an alleged burglary of a Bradley Terrace home, police said.  Jorge Zambrono, 26, and Jose Lima Delgato, 25 were arrested after police located them nearby and in possession of cash and jewelry from the residence, officials said. According to police, a neighbor reported seeing two suspicious men come out of the home's backyard and called police. Police responded to the neighbor's report and to a house alarm around 2 p.m.

West Orange Police Report Burglaries Throughout Township

Electronics, guitars and medicine among items taken.

West Orange police are investigating a series of burglaries in the township including a Sunday, March 3 burglary of a Pleasant Valley Way residence in which the thieves made off with more than $2,000 worth of property, officials said. According to the police, the resident reported the home was broken into between 6:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.  The owner reported the following items were stolen: Police also are investigating a Feb. 25 incident in which a Blackstock Road residence was broken into after the owner returned home from work at about 6 p.m. In that incident more than $3,000 in electronics and medicine were stolen along with two watches, totalling $4,900. Violent crime (of all types) decreased from 8 in January 2012 to 3 in January 2013. We are all hearing about the crime that does happen more swifly, and the information is disseminated more broadly, due to the Internet...period.   more ›

Men Arrested for Burglarizing 10 Cars, Police Say

West Orange duo arrested after trespassing in parking lot of West Orange High School last week.

West Orange police say the arrest of two 23-year-old West Orange men who were caught trespassing at West Orange High School last week may prove more valuable than just simple trespassing charges. Justin Chase and Lance Ogunwale were arrested for trespassing while walking through a parking lot at the high school around 4:30 a.m., police said. When police searched Chase and Ogunwale, the officers found items stolen from 10 cars in town. Items found that police were able to confirm as stolen included: Police also recovered the following items, but the owners couldn't be found: Chase and Ogunwale were charged with trespassing, conspiracy, 10 counts of burglary, eight counts of theft and three counts of possession. Both were given a court date …

$5,000 in Jewelry Stolen From Buckingham Road House

Home was burglarized last week, according to police.

Burglars made off with 15 pieces of jewelry valued at about $5,000 last week when a residence on Buckingham Road was burglarized, West Orange police said. The resident told police she left her house in the morning on Jan. 31. When she returned home at about 4:30 p.m., all the doors were still locked, but her home had been burglarized. Police suspect the burglar broke in through a rear window in basement. The resident told police $700 in cash, a laptop, gold pieces from a jewelry box and 15 pieces of combined gold rings, bracelets and necklaces were stolen.  An investigation is continuing.

Police Chase, Arrest Two Alleged Burglars

Nicholas Williams, 34, and Haneef Brook, 33, arrested after allegedly attempting to break into residences in neighborhood near Eagle Rock Avenue and Pleasant Valley Way.

West Orange police arrested two men who allegedly attempted to break into Shrump Place and Marmon Terrace residences on Jan. 15, officials said.  According to police, an Oak Terrace resident reported two suspicious men walking up her driveway and into her neighbor’s backyards.  Police arrived and saw one of the men, Nicholas Williams, 34, of West Orange, walking on a Marmon Terrace driveway.  During questioning, Williams told police he parked his silver BMW on Oak Terrace and was walking to a friend's house.  William's, however, couldn't provide a name or address of his friend. Serial Burglar Suspected in 150 Burglaries Across North Jersey

Man caught on tape burglarizing a West Orange Chinese Restaurant is also wanted in Montclair, Millburn, Verona and Fairfield.

A man suspected in more than 150 commercial burglaries in four New Jersey counties over the last two years has been caught on surveillance tape by the West Orange Police Department. The video of the serial burglar's last known job, on Nov. 18 at 4:30 a.m., at the #1 Chinese Kitchen on Main Street, depicts the man breaking into the restaurant by smashing the lower half of a glass door, crawling through the opening, and rummaging through the cash register. He found the register empty and left 15 minutes later, police said.  Once police captured the man’s appearance on tape, they were able to get his face out across state channels, West Orange Det.
