Caldwell Police reveal surveillance video of suspect who attempted to rob West Orange bank before robbing Caldwell bank on Thursday.
Caldwell police Monday released surveillance images of a man who allegedly robbed a bank in Caldwell just one hour after he attempted to rob a West Orange bank late Thursday afternoon, officials said. According to officials in the Newark FBI office, the man entered the Wells Fargo Bank at 412 Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange at about 5 p.m. on April 18 and demanded money before fleeing without any cash. About an hour later, police believe the same man robbed a PNC Bank at 423 Bloomfield Ave. in Caldwell. Police have not released the amount of money taken. FBI releases photos of Monday's robbery at TD Bank.
The FBI is seeking the public’s help identifying the man who robbed a TD Bank on Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange on Monday. The man, described by the FBI as approximately 5’10” tall and 210 lbs., with a large build, salt-and-pepper hair and a goatee, approached a bank teller at approximately 1:15 p.m., brandished a silver semi-automatic handgun and demanded money be placed into a blue bag, officials said. The man was described as wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses, a dark sweater, blue jeans and dark shoes, according to the FBI. After getting the money, officials said the man fled on foot and was seen walking north on Pleasant Valley Way. The FBI released several photos of the man on Wednesday. Authorities are investigating a bank robbery Tuesday at the Valley National Bank on Bloomfield Avenue. Just before 1 p.m. Tuesday, the suspect entered the bank at 22 Bloomfield Ave. and passed a note to the teller reading "Have gun. Give me money," according to Deputy Chief Mark Minichini of the Belleville Police Department. The suspect made off with the contents of the teller's drawer and fled north on foot on Belmont Avenue. Exact proceeds have not been determined, Minichini said. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating the death of a West Orange woman on Oct. 31. A Newark man convicted of robbing eight banks in a two-month period was sentenced to eight years in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Nathaniel Barreto, 30, of Newark, previously pleaded guilty to one bank robbery and admitted robbing seven others and attempting to rob a ninth. The banks he robbed included branches in Bloomfield and West Orange and banks in Bergen, Hunterdon, Middlesex and Morris counties. The robberies took place between the end of June and mid-August 2010. Barreto was sentenced on Wednesday in federal court in Trenton by U.S. District Court Judge Freda L. Wolfson.
