West Orange Students Participate in Winter 2011 Knowledge Master Open

Place first in state

Twenty-five fifth grade students from the High Aptitude program in the West Orange Public Schools participated in the Winter 2011 Knowledge Master Open (KMO). Students from almost every state and several countries participated in the academic competition. The teams of fifth and sixth grade students used computers to answer 100 challenging questions from all curriculum areas.

The team of students from West Orange, under the guidance of High Aptitude academic teachers Carol Hyde and Rebecca Giacopelli, received enough points to place them first in New Jersey and twelfth in the nation.

The knowledge areas tested were American History, World History, Government, Recent Events, Geography, Literature, English, Math, Physical Science, Biology, Earth Science, Health and Psychology, Fine Arts and "Useless Trivia."
