"Little Shop of Horrors" To Be Presented at Liberty

The Off-Broadway production will be performed on May 3 and 4 at 7:30 p.m. at Liberty Middle School

It might be a few weeks after Earth Day, but Liberty Middle School will be going green in a big way this May.

Featuring a giant green plant, the hit Off-Broadway musical “Little Shop of Horrors” will be performed on May 3 and 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Liberty Middle School auditorium. Tickets are $10 apiece and can be purchased via this link or going to www.seatyourself.biz/LMS.

Seymour (Daniel Querques), a down-and-out skid row floral assistant, becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon "Audrey II" grows into an ill-tempered, R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite, finally revealing itself to be an alien creature poised for global domination!

Other featured performers in the show include Victoria Estoque as Audrey, Jalen Lesly as Mr. Mushnik, Mark Morrison as Orin Scrivello, D.D.S. and Natalie Melendez, Gabriella Rodriguez, Devaneice Ward, Diana Jean, and Kyla Trinidad as “The Shoops.”

The show features songs like “Skid Row (Downtown)," “Suddenly, Seymour," “Dentist!” and “The Meek Shall Inherit."

“Little Shop of Horrors” was written with lyrics by Howard Ashman with music by Alan Menken. The duo were the songwriting team behind Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Aladdin.”  This show is based on the film by Roger Corman with screenplay by Charles Griffith.

The student production is directed by Liberty choral music teacher John Hellyer, coordinated by assistant directors Patty Richardson and Vincent DeJesus and choreographed by Amy Shera.
