Children's Author Pat Brisson Visits Pleasantdale

Students got to spend time with the author of "The Summer my Father Was Ten", "Wanda's Roses", and "Benny's Penny's".

The following has been submitted by Lee Sutton of the Pleasantdale PTA:

A former elementary teacher and school librarian, Pat Brisson has been writing and presenting author day programs to children for more than twenty years. While there are many talented authors in New Jersey that Pleasantdale could have invited Ms. Brisson stood out as a natural fit for our school.  Pat Brisson’s books focus on children learning to be brave in the face of adversity, giving back to their community, and how to be themselves no matter how different they may be perceived.

Some of Pat’s more popular published books are, “The Summer my Father Was Ten”, “Wanda’s Roses”, and “Benny’s Penny’s”.

In spending the day with us, Mrs. Brisson did three 45 minute-1 hour programs for our children (including Q&A time). The program aimed not only at sharing Pat’s published works, but to inspire and encourage our students to do writing of their own. The children were engaged and loved hearing ideas on what to write about and how to write. A special luncheon was also held in Pat’s honor with Teachers, Book Fair Volunteers, PTA members and School Administrators in attendance.

Pleasantdale Elementary was able to fund this event with the sales from our fall 2011 Scholastic Book Fair.
