Support Sandra Mordecai for WO Bd. of Educ.

As residents of West Orange for the past forty years, retired educators and parents of three children who have been educated in the West Orange school system, we have indeed had the opportunity to follow developments in West Orange very closely.  With this in mind, we have had a keen interest in monitoring the activities of those who have made an impact on education in the Township.

In addition, we have witnessed the extraordinary dedication and commitment demonstrated by Board of Education Member, Sandra Mordecai, and we are indeed privileged to support her candidacy for re-election to the West Orange Board of Education. For example, it should be noted that among her many achievements was her ability to help implement the following:

$4 million in grants was received by the Board of Education.  Over $300,000 was cut in transportation costs and  over $2 million was saved by re-financing the debt service.  The budget was kept under the 2% cap three years in a row during Sandra’s first term.  All of the board meetings are now in an ADA accessible location and are also televised.

Also during Sandra’s term there was implementation of new curricula for English, Language Arts and  Math. The achievement gap in 4 of 7 of the elementary has been closed, and the gap in others has been narrowed. Classroom time has been increased from Kindergarten through grade 12.

We do look forward in earnest to Sandra’s continued service to the West Orange community.
