September is Library Card Sign-Up Month

Do your children have the most important school supply of all?

As West Orange students head back to school this month, the West Orange Public Library wants to make sure that all children have the most important school supply of all – a library card.

Owning a library card provides students with the resources they need to compete academically. The Library provides students with free access to databases of news articles, encyclopedias and test preparation materials, as well as homework help and resources. In addition, public libraries are the number one access point for free Internet access, an important resource for families without access at home when most school districts require students to use the Internet to complete their homework.

“Today’s libraries provide all types of students with the tools they need to succeed,” says Youth Services Librarian Faith Boyle. “Libraries provide young readers with exciting and engaging programs that make learning fun. It is for these reasons that now more then ever, a library card is most important school supply of all.”

Anyone who lives, works or attends school in town is elibible for a free card. Call 973-736-0198 for more information.

During September, the American Library Association and libraries across the country remind parents of the positive impact a library card can make on their children’s lives. Now is the perfect time to stop by the West Orange Public Library at 46 Mt. Pleasant Avenue to sign up for your free library card.  Check out what’s happening at the Library this month at the Library at www.wopl.org.
