Library Book Discussion Group

Join the discussion of "Super Sad True Love Story" at the Library.

Librarian Debra Sarr will lead a discussion of Gary Shteyngart’s Super Sad True Love Story in the Library meeting room on Monday, August 6 at 1:30pm.

The book is about a man named Lenny Bramov. He is a dangerous man. He reads books. He cares about his friends. He loves his parents. He writes in a diary and he misses the New York of the past. When he meets Eunice Park he is drawn to her, despite her abusive past and distrust of men. Shteyngart follows Lenny and Eunice as their relationship develops in a ravaged New York City, where the US dollar no longer has value, all of your data is visible with just a scan of a machine, and remaining young and beautiful is of the utmost importance.

For similar titles, try the following novels which are available at the Library: Absurdistan by Gary Shteyngart (also available as a downloadable audiobook), The Russian Debutante’s Handbook by Gary Shteyngart, Chronic City by Jonathan Lethem (also available as an ebook), Thank You for Smoking by Christopher Buckley (also available as a feature film), and Cat’s Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut (also available as a downloadable audiobook).

In addition to lively conversation, the Library provides coffee, tea, and cookies to book discussion participants. The next book discussion is scheduled for Monday, October 3 at 1:30pm. Author Cathi Hanauer will lead the discussion of her latest novel Gone at the October meeting.
