Teacher to be Arraigned, Prism Plan Approved This Week in West Orange

The West Orange High School teacher Erica Depalo, 33, of Montclair, accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student is scheduled to be arraigned next week in Newark, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The West Orange Planning Board unanimously voted to approve changes to the Edison redevelopment plan at its meeting on Wednesday night. 

After two delayed votes by the board in  and , Prism Green Urban Renewal Associates IV LLC, a subsidiary of the redeveloper, finally got approval to nix high-end features, including changing the total number of units, from the original plan approved in 2007.

Nolvin Garcia, accused of  at a West Orange bar in August, was arraigned on Tuesday morning in Newark Superior Court, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. 

Garcia pleaded not guilty to the charges and his bail was increased to $1 million.

A 69-year-old woman was going through the trunk of her car parked at Kmart, 295 Prospect Ave., at around 3 p.m. on Monday when a man approached her from behind and grabbed her purse.

The woman struggled with the man until the purse straps broke, causing her to fall to the ground. She injured her wrist in the fall, according to police.
