Jasey, McKeon Will Seek Re-Election

Assembly Members John F. McKeon and Mila M. Jasey Tuesday announced they will run for re-election to the New Jersey General Assembly. Citing their record of capping property tax increases, improving environmental safeguards, and championing public education, McKeon and Jasey "look forward to continuing their efforts to grow New Jersey's economy, ensure a living wage for hardworking families and set the State on a firm foundation for long-term prosperity," according to a release.

Assemblyman McKeon is one of New Jersey’s leading voices on the environment, most recently sponsoring a package of bills designed to reduce pollution in the massive Barengat Bay watershed. He has worked with legislators on both sides of the aisle to pass sensible bills like the 2% Property-Tax-Cap, a statewide ban on the dangerous practice of hydraulic fracturing (or "fracking") and the landmark 2012 Iran Divesture Act, which strengthens New Jersey's commitment to the state of Israel by prohibiting State and local public contracts with companies who do business with the energy, finance, and construction sectors of Iran.

"Serving the people of the 27th District has been my distinct honor and privilege. With their support, I will continue to work with Governor Codey and Assemblywoman Jasey to further reduce our residents' property tax burden, safeguard our state's land, air and water, and ensure that New Jersey is an affordable place for middle-class families," said McKeon. "I look forward to the opportunity to continue working with my colleagues in the Assembly from both parties who are willing to put the residents of our state first."

Assemblywoman Jasey, has earned a reputation as one of the Legislature’s leading advocates for public schools, most recently sponsoring New Jersey’s milestone TEACHNJ tenure reform law. She has been in the forefront of efforts to protect women’s health, end the plague of human trafficking and halt the foreclosures that displace too many of our state’s families. Jasey was also a lead sponsor of the Iran Divestiture Law.

McKeon, first elected to the General Assembly in 2001, served twelve years as Mayor of West Orange, and six years on the Township Council. Assemblyman McKeon is a member of the Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance, Judiciary and State Government committees. He resides in West Orange with his wife Ann and they are the parents of three daughters.

Jasey, first elected to the General Assembly in 2007, served three terms on the South Orange Maplewood Board of Education, including two years as President. Assemblywoman Jasey is Vice-Chair of the Assembly Housing & Local Government Committee and a member of the Assembly Education committee. She resides in South Orange with her husband Neil, and they are the parents of three adult children and have two grandchildren.

Assemblyman McKeon and Assemblywoman Jasey will proudly be running with Senator Richard J. Codey, and presumptive Democratic gubernatorial nominee Senator Barbara Buono.
