Three-Alarm Fire Displaces Five Residents

Sunday night blaze on Washington Street left five displaced.

A three-alarm fire displaced five residents Sunday night from their multi-family home on Washington Street, authorities said. 

According to Lt. Robert Williams, heavy smoke was coming out of the second floor of the residence at 10 Washington Street when police arrived at about 6:15 p.m. 

The West Orange Fire Department extinguished the blaze after about an hour, police said. The entire department responded along with West Orange First Aid Squad. 

American Red Cross gave the displaced residents temporary shelter, according to the report.

Orange, South Orange East Orange and Maplewood fire departments provide mutual aid. 

The fire started on the second Authorities are unsure how the fire was started. An investigation by Essex County determined the fire was not suspicious.
