Sex Assault Accusations Against West Orange Teacher Dismissed by Grand Jury

Christopher Yonitch, 36, of Livingston, could be back teaching by February, according to interim superintendent James O'Neill.

A grand jury has decided not to indict a West Orange teacher accused in February of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl, according to publications.

The Washington School teacher, Christopher Yonitch, 36, of Livingston, was arrested Feb. 7 on charges of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, according to officials at the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

According to NJ.com, a grand jury "no billed" the case Friday, in a decision to not indict the teacher.

Yonitch was suspended with pay in early February. A certified teacher replaced Yonitch for the remainder of the school year.

Interim superintendent James O'Neill told the publication, Yonitch could be back to teaching by February. He also said the district would conduct its own investigation.

Yonitch and his lawyer could not be reached for comment Monday.
