Police: Armed Robbers Steal $500 From Delta Gas Station

Two masked men robbed a gas station at gunpoint just a few blocks from Town Hall, West Orange Police say.

Two masked men robbed a West Orange gas station at gunpoint and made off with $500 late Thursday, authorities released Monday.

According to Lt. Robert Williams, an attendant was pumping gas at the Delta Station at 23 Park Ave. at about 10 p.m. when he was grabbed from behind and held.

The attendant told police another man walked up to him, put a gun to his stomach and said, "Give the money or I'm going to shoot you," according to Williams.

The attendant handed over $400 to $500 in cash and the pair took off on Park Avenue toward Ashland Avenue where they ran north, the report said.

Two witnesses told police they saw two men, with bandanas over their faces, running on Ashland and get into a newer white Honda Accord, Williams said.

Police described one of the robbers as a 6-foot tall black man, wearing a black and grey hooded sweatshirt with a white bandana. The armed robber was described as 5-foot-9 black man wearing a similar sweatshirt with dark pants and red shoes.

The incident is still under investigation.

According to Williams, Police Chief James Abbott will address the Township Council Tuesday on the recent armed robberies as well as arrests the police department has made in similar incidents.
