Police Blotter: Disorderly Conduct, Warrant Arrests, Credit Card Fraud

A man was repeatedly struck in the face while in Dunkin Donuts on Main Street, police said. The victim told authorities he was assaulted after he tried to intervene when a man was making derogatory comments toward a woman. He was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital after the incident Sunday night, police said.

A man was arrested for disorderly conduct Sunday night on Freeman Street, police said. According to the incident report, a large crowd of 75 people were standing in the middle of Freeman Street and told police a man, hiding behind one of the houses, had been involved in an altercation. When police approached the man, they said he was "agitated" and appeared intoxicated. The man began to scream at police, trying to explain the situation, police said, adding that they tried to calm him down to no avail. Authorities advised the man he was under arrest, but when he refused to turn around, police forcibly took him to the ground.

Police said fraudulent charges were found on a West Orange woman's Valley National Bank debit card last month. The woman told police she found money missing from her account and could not find her debit card. The fraudulent charges totaled $260 and were made in the area, police said.

A man was arrested for drug possession while driving in the area of Washington and High streets, police said. According to the incident report, police stopped a car with tinted windows and smelled marijuana coming from the car. Police found the driver of the car was carrying marijuana and took him into custody. No other drugs were found inside the car, police said.

Another set of unauthorized charges were made on woman's credit card last week, police said. They said the fraudulent charges totaled $226 dollars on her TD Bank card.

A woman was arrested by police on an outstanding warrant out of Livingston last week, police said. They said the woman went to police headquarters to pick up her purse found at the Kessler Institute when authorities realized there was a warrant out for her arrest and took her into custody.

A vacant home on Woodland Avenue was allegedly burglarized and spray painted sometime in the past month, police said. The home, owned by B'nai Shalom, had been empty for months, according to the incident report. Police said the suspect(s) entered the home through an unlocked window on the second floor. They said the second floor was spray painted and large holes were found through some of the walls. Nothing was taken from the home, police said.

Two men were pulled over while driving down Washington Street last week, police said. Authorities pulled over their vehicle when they noticed the men were not wearing their seat belts. One of the men was found to have an active warrant out of North Caldwell and was taken into custody. Both men were issued a summons for failure to wear seat belts, police said.
