David Seitzman, 47, of West Orange, and Steven Marchesano, 33, of Lake Hiawatha, were arrested Wednesday and charged with marijuana possession, distribution and conspiracy to distribute marijuana, according to police.

West Orange police got a tip from the U.S. Post Office in Newark on Tuesday about a suspicious package being delivered in West Orange from Oregon. Police received the package and it was positively identified by a K-9 Unit that it contained marijuana.

Police went undercover as a U.S. Postal employee to deliver the package to a residence on Cerone Court at around 3 p.m. Wednesday.

No one signed for the package, and it was left at the address, but Seitzman and Marchesano soon arrived.

Seitzman and Marchesano were confronted by police, and admitted the package contained marijuana.

After searching Seitzman’s residence, police discovered another 7.7 pounds of marijuana.

Sgt. William Varanelli said shipping drugs through the mail is “extremely common, because California has such liberal medical marijuana laws out there. It is a source area for New Jersey.”

He added that this was not the first time the department has seen marijuana shipped from Oregon.

Both were released after posting $50,000 bail each
