Police: Armed Burglar Robs Home, Flees in Stolen Car

A home on Colonial Woods Drive was burglarized early Monday morning while the resident was sleeping.

An armed burglar robbed a West Orange home early Monday morning and made off in the resident's car, police said. 

According to Lt. Robert Williams, the burglar broke into the home on Colonial Woods Drive just after 5 a.m. while the homeowner was sleeping. 

The homeowner told police he heard someone in the hallway and got up to check what it was.  When he opened his bedroom door, the burglar was standing in the doorway, he told police.

According to the report, the owner screamed at the burglar and he ran out the front door. The owner them chased the burglar outside and into his driveway. 

"Stop there or I'll shoot," the burglar yelled, the report stated.

The homeowner ran then back into his house, he told police and the burglar made off in the homeowner's red 2001 BMW Xi.

Police described the burglar as a 6-foot-1 black man in his 20's, about 170 pounds, wearing a long sleeve red shirt with white stripes on the arms and a gray winter hat. 

According to Williams, a neighbor heard glass breaking at about 5:19 a.m. and the car speeding away about 10 minutes later.

The burglar made off with a laptop valued at about $500, the report stated.
