Pair of Burglars Chased Off by West Orange Homeowner, Cops Say

The Longview Street resident chased the burglars for almost a mile after foiling the attempted burglary, police say.

A Longview Street resident foiled an attempted burglary Monday afternoon and chased the burglars for almost a mile, West Orange police said.

According to West Orange Police Sgt. Rob Hartman, a pair of men tried to enter a Longview Street home through a window screen in the kitchen just after 1:30 p.m.

The resident heard a noise and entered the kitchen, startling the burglars, he told cops.

The pair took off and the resident chased after them on foot down Longview Street to Hutton Avenue and west on Northfield Avenue, Hartman said. The resident lost track of the burglars on Cobane Terrace after chasing the pair for nearly a mile.

A neighbor told police, he saw another man parked in an older silver Ford Mustang yelling, "Where are you?"

Police described the burglars as two black men in their 20s, one wearing a blue t-shirt.

There was no further information on the Mustang. The attempted burglary is still under investigation.
