Man Charged in Alleged Carjacking, High-Speed Chase

Charles Bracy, 24, of Orange, was charged with carjacking, eluding, aggravated assault and weapons offenses.

A 24-year-old Orange man has been charged in the carjacking in Essex Green last week that turned into a high-speed chase injuring four West Orange officers, authorities said Friday.

Charles Bracy was charged with carjacking, eluding, aggravated assault and more than four charges for possession of a weapon, Sgt. David Naimaister. His charges were reported earlier as pending.

According to police, Bracy was driving the stolen Infiniti, which was carjacked from Orange on Aug. 8, that hit multiple cop cars in the failed getaway.

When police arrested Bracy, officers found a loaded semi-automatic handgun in the car, Jessica Glicker, a spokeswoman for the township, said.

Bracy and a few others pulled up in the stolen Infiniti, carjacked a BMW at gunpoint from the Essex Green Shopping Center in West Orange and drove off in both vehicles at approximately 1 p.m. on Aug. 7.

Police pursued the cars during which the Infiniti ran into two West Orange police vehicles on Mount Pleasant Avenue, injuring the West Orange cops.

The BMW and its occupants got away and remain at-large, Glicker said Friday.
