Man Accused of Murder at WO Bar Arraigned on Tuesday

Nolvin Garcia, 24, of Orange, was charged with the murder of Jacques Nelson, 32, of Orange, by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office yesterday.

 

The man accused of at a West Orange bar in August was arraigned on Tuesday morning in Newark Superior Court, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. 

Nolvin Garcia, 24, of Orange, was charged with the murder of Jacques Nelson, 32, of Orange, by the ECPO yesterday. Garcia, also a citizen of Honduras, was arrested in Laredo, Texas, on Aug. 19 by US Border Patrol Agents as he was attempting to cross over into Mexico.

Garcia was extradited from Texas to face charges in New Jersey. 

Garcia, also known as Jose Elvin Lendos Garcia, was fighting with someone in the parking lot behind , at 277 Main St., at around 2 a.m. on Aug. 6.

Nelson, who was working as a bouncer at the bar, attempted to break up the fight when Garcia allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Nelson in the chest, according to the prosecutor’s office.  

Nelson, a father of four, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The prosecutor's office did not release further details about the murder.  

Garcia’s bail was increased from $750,000 to $1 million at the request of Assistant Prosecutor Eileen O’Connor. O’Connor argued that Garcia was a flight risk and would attempt to flee to Mexico or Honduras. 

Judge Peter Vazquez agreed, and also ordered to increase the bail conditions, requiring the bail funds to be proven legitimate. 

Misty's Bar and Restaurant remains open. One of the owners said on Tuesday that he has no comment regarding the murder at the bar.
