Los Tapatios Burglarized, Police Say

Employee opens bar and restaurant to find money missing.

 

A popular Mexican restaurant was robbed overnight and its owners reported nearly $2,000 was stolen.

Police confirmed that Los Tapatios, 10 Main St., was burglarize early Sunday morning. Two cash registers were ransacked of $1,850, and the inside of the bar and restaurant was found to be in complete disarray, according to police reports.

In addition, an ATM in the bar was tampered with. Police found the bottom cover plate of the machine pried open, but no money appeared to be taken. 

The burglary took place between the times when Los Tapatios closed around 2 a.m. on Sunday and when it opened at noon. Police did not find any broken windows or door locks to indicate a forced entry.

The burglary is still under investigation and there are no further details, according to Sgt. Joe Spero of the West Orange Police Department. Spero could also not recall any past incidents at Los Tapatios. 

Because of the burglary, Spero said that the businesses in the area will remain an area of concern for the department. 

 “We are keeping an eye on it for now,” said Spero.
