Herndon Family Found Dead Was Friendly, Neighbors Say

Husband, wife and two school-aged children discovered Tuesday in a Point Rider Lane home

Herndon, VA — Herndon's Point Rider Lane neighborhood is reeling Tuesday after learning a family of four was found dead inside a home there this morning.

Police were called out to the home in the 13300 block of Point Rider Lane at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to do a welfare check on the family after a coworker of one of the adults notified police they hadn’t been to work Monday or Tuesday, police said.

Police breached the home at about noon and found the bodies of two adults and two Fairfax County school aged-children, Fairfax County Police Spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell said.

Caldwell said they have not released a cause of death and next of kin has not yet been notified. She said the preliminary investigation has found no threat to the community.

Neighbors say the family that lived in the home was friendly and helpful, sometimes helping clear snow after a storm and always waving.

Ed Swanson Jr., a neighbor of six years, said he’s shocked something like this happened in the community. He said the husband was a "good guy" who was helpful and the neighborhood "has been awesome."

Another neighbor, Sherry Webster, said her son had been friends with the family’s two boys when they were younger. She said it will be difficult to tell her son what happened.

Webster said the parents were outgoing, neighborly, and a cute couple.

“She was full of energy,” she said of the wife.

Patch will follow this story and provide more information as it becomes available.

Lots of these comments are just more examples of the lack of compassion we ALL face every single day. This is a story of a tragic loss of life. Nothing more, nothing less. Stop wasting time working to infuriate others and spend that same amt of time praying for the families of these people. They have a horrible situation to deal with. God bless them.

How dare anyone even think to bring politics into such a tragedy? It's not ignorant, it shows a lack of empathy. How? How is it even possible to bring in politics with this? Who would care about such a thing when people have died? It's a very upsetting and tragic situation, nothing more and nothing less. Please stop trying to twist it into something it's not!

You are screaming about the truth the truth and the only truth that matters is that a family has just experienced a horrific loss and your prejudice toward Obama seems to be the only truth that is showing at this point. Let us all remember this family in there time of extreme sorrow. Shut up about Obama, no one man can fix this country it takes a joint effort from all parties in the government to achieve this goal. If you are saying one man didn't kill osama than that one person can not heal this country we have to do it together and bashing one another is not how to do it.

It's so loudly obvious 2 all that hear U; that U R 1 of the many that have been entitled/afforded because of the complextion of your skin, & most diffinantly not because of the "content of your character"!
