Body Found in South Mountain Reservation

Woman walking her dog discovered body in Millburn.

A decomposing body was discovered in the South Mountain Reservation in Millburn Tuesday afternoon by a woman walking her dog, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said.

The body was found in the woods, according to Katherine Carter, spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office.

She said the body is likely that of a man, wearing blue jeans and gray sneakers. The body does not show obvious sign of foul play.

The woman, who has not been identified, spotted the body about one mile south of South Orange Avenue.

The incident remains under investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force and the Essex County Sheriff’s Office.

Patch will update this story when more information becomes available.

@ Hilding Lindquist: Well, the bottom line remains that the essence of management is the proper allocation of scarce resources. We can afford what we can afford and police departments that have downsized have generally maintained the same patrol and operations staffing by reassigning administrative types to those functions. And, yes, we do still have the world's finest armed forces but, do keep in mind they are significantly smaller than they've been in the past; 12% of the population during WWII and .005% of the population today. The reason? Technology...and law enforcement can and should employ it as well, to keep the streets safe and as economically as possible.

Someone took down my original posting regarding the maplewood/south orange police department. I fail to see how it was inappropriate...In any case the police are corrupt!

@ Lisa S.: In every war, there are those whose moral compass is obliterated and who succumb to to their vilest inner demons but, the Jon Turners out there are very much the exception to the rule. Far, far more prevalent are those who bear the psychological scars of having recognized and experienced just how horrible and senseless war truly is...and they wouldn't be inclined to photograph the worst of what they saw or did as souvenirs. I suspect Mr. Turner was a damaged soul long before his military service. Still, so long as evil and tyrrany exist in this world, good men and women will be required to act and bear arms...and we should continue to cherish and honor those who have and those who will...most of whom do not disregard the Judeo-Christian ethic in the process. As to demorcracynow.org and the IAVA (the organizations sponsoring the "symposium" depicted in your video), my observations would include that the far left is no less wacky than the far right and we should seek balance in all things. Yes, we do have the finest military in the world and most who serve in it do so with dignity, honor and compassion...and this discussion is completely off point here and really should be for another time and place. RLTW!

@ Ravin Strong: Only the webmaster can remove a post but, an anonymous accusation of corruption, without presentation of any requisite proof, is both defamatory and rather pointless.
