3 Men Assaulted on Main Street

One suffers gash to the head

Three men were allegedly the victims of an aggravated assault on Main Street, police said.

The group was walking down Main Street toward Park Avenue last Sunday morning around 4 a.m. when a light blue car with four men inside pulled up and began assaulting them, authorities said.

According to the police report, three men exited the car carrying metal objects. One of the men approached the victims and said, "What did you say?" The victim then replied, "What?" and was struck in the head with an unknown object, police said. He suffered a four-inch gash to the head and was taken to St. Barnabas Medical Center.

The second victim was struck in the face with an open hand and fell to the floor  and the third victim was hit in the forearm with an unknown object causing a bruise, police said.

The victims were then told "Albanians did this to you," according to the incident report. They fled southbound in their car. Police described the three assaulters as white men, two of which were wearing red shirts and one was wearing a white shirt.

@Dan, you mean you've 'heard'?? There are such things as Albanian gangs....in West Orange...not sure about that. If you saw something please call the police. On a different note, does anyone else wonder why people are walking down the street (especially between 1-4 AM)? Everytime I start to read one of these articles I'm thinking in my head, "Hmmm, let me guess, this happened at the weee hours in the morning when most people earning an honest living are sleeping."

@Lori - I agree, there are not many logical reasons for people to be wandering the streets in the middle of the night. I occasionally drive home late and you wouldn't believe the number of teenagers hanging around on Main St. after midnight. This is where good parenting and supervision comes into play. There is no reason to be on the streets in the middle of the night and these are the people likely to cause trouble or become victims of trouble.

@Tom G. it's really sad. At that age most kids think nothing is going to happen to them, everything bad always happens to other people, but not them. I remember thinking that when I was that age. Parenting is a huge factor!!! It starts even from the time the baby is in the womb. It shouldn't be taken lightly.

Well, before I jumped to conclusions I would wonder if maybe these three men were on their way to work. Some diners are open all night and some open early for the working crowd, i.e. 5:00 a.m. or 6:00 a.m. Also, there are landscapers and constructions crews that start out early in the morning also. I did not note that any ages of the men were mentioned in the article. Did you? So easy to blame parents for something, especially when you're not even sure of the ages of the parties involved.

@Karen Rauseo With all due respect, In the last sentence of my first comment I wrote "...when MOST people earning an honest living are sleeping." I did not say all people, so therefore I wasn't jumping to any conclusion regarding the victims or the assailants. I was speaking of teenagers in response to Tom G.'s comment about witnessing many teenagers out after midnight when he is occasionally driving home at that time. I didn't think he was referring to the people involved as being teenagers either. Sorry if that confused you. We were speaking of teenagers who DO hang out early in the morning, and yes, whether kids are allowed to do this is the parent or guardians responsibility! I have no idea the ages of any of the people involved or any information as to why they were where they were at that time on that day. I never said I did.
