West Orange High Students Participate in Leadership Conference

On March 20-21, 2014, the West Orange High School Chapter of FCCLA attended the State Leadership Conference held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, in Cherry Hill, NJ. The conference is a dynamic two-day event where high school students connect with peers from all over the state of New Jersey. Students attended leadership workshops, heard messages from motivational speakers, and participated in competitive events that relate to the district’s curriculum in Family and Consumer Science Education.

In the STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events, Jacquelin Rivas Tejada earned a First Place Gold Medal in the Focus on Children category; Malawi Allen, Jasmine Miller, and Natalie Narcisse won a Silver Medal in the Illustrated Talk category. These students have an opportunity to attend the National Leadership Conference to be held in San Antonio, Texas on July 6-10, 2014, and compete nationally with high school students from across the United States.

Other West Orange High School students receiving recognition are: STAR Events- Entrepreneurship- Krishna Patel, Tiffany Koffi- Bronze Medal and Life Event Planning- Crystal Nzegwa, Claretta Bellany, Jasmine Miller-Silver Medal winners.

"Being at the State Leadership Conference was an incredible experience! Our group cheered for each other and were there for one another," said Senior Ashely Walker. "I am very happy that I was able to be a part of this, not only because it promotes young leaders' ideas, but the energy and excitement we all had for each other was amazing."
