Monday, April 28th the West Orange Board of Education unanimously approved the 2014-2015 budget after a comprehensive presentation by Interim Superintendent of Schools Jim O’Neill.

As stated in the opening comments “It is the Board’s charge to present a prudent budget while avoiding cuts to the classroom and ensuring we continue to provide a quality education.” It is also noted that, “The School Board continues to be challenged by unfunded mandates, rising costs of utilities, maintenance of facilities and increases in tuition for out-of-district placements.” The 2014-2015 net operating budget is inclusive of the previously approved debt service of $5,917,806, and the State and Federal revenue of $15,105,901, totaling $125,184,960, which represents a budget increase of 1.23%.

In addition to enhanced district-wide curriculum and program initiatives presented by Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum Dr. Rando, the presentations included a financial presentation by Business Administrator Mark Kenny. Director of Technology Fil Santiago discussed plans to continue the district-wide technology and wireless upgrades to enhance ‘21st century learning’ while adhering to the new mandates for online testing, including the new PARCC testing requirements.
